Jar in a Jam

A new crafty thing attempted: Paint on glass.
***First the jar. My first attempt to paint on glass. This is a two liter mason jar purchased for a buck at The Good Will--last autumn.  Yea. Well, I tried a crafty thing where I tried to Mod Podge leaves on the jar. Uh--not quite a the success I thought it would be. I soaked and washed off the jar, then used cotton balls dabbed in alcohol to take care of whatever residue was left. Plaid Folk Art Enamel paints, including the red base coat were used on the mason jar. .
****Then I went a little natural sea sponge happy with the colors.Part of my problem with paint, is I think I miss something if I do not drown my project in a zillion colors. Note to self. Gotta work on that. I did use a metallic enamel, which gave me more ideas--however back to this matter at hand...
****After I natural sea sponged the jar and instead of washing off the the paint to start I anew-- I decided to journey on. I let the mason jar air dry for an hour before I popped it in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. If you do bake glass, turn on the oven's fan. Your nose will thank you later.
****All in all, I enjoyed painting this jar. I would like to find more big mason jars like this to play around with. There was no writing on the jar, no nothing. I know I went overboard on the paint selection. Regardless, felt pretty 'artsy' that I baked ON glass, instead of in it--like I do my marvelous peach/blueberry crumble topping pie (which will be another post!). I will paint  another jar with less paint and more restraint.  Also want to try and thin paint with nail polish remover like on the SandandSisal blog. I love how her vases turned out, plus the vases were painted on the inside!
***In the meantime, I have a cat to pet, ice cream to devour and finalize plans to make my next mason jar as marvelous as it can be.
Stay tuned.

Saturday

Yea. Things happen that causes tears. Then you are surprised not that many tissues are used to dry the tears. Nor do you devour a yummy pint of the most dee-lish ice cream to ease the sadness. Instead you peel an orange, watch a cheesy movie on destruction of the world on the SyFy Channel, tweak your business plan and pet a cat. And you know the person who betrayed your trust has lost the most.

Few Friday

I work with people who were born in the 80's.
The late 80's at that.
I tell em, I was pretty much partyin' with
Adult beverages laced with 80 proof alchohol
When they were babes in swaddling clothes--
They laugh. I'm serious. Where did the time go?
These young uns' have no clue music came from vinyl
Or to make sure you don't leave home without
A dime for the pay phone
And TV had 3 channels and signed off at midnite
Oh and on Saturday mornings I waited for the TV to
Sign ON so I could enjoy my bevy of cartoon fare!
...ahh, where did the time go?
Oh well, 'scue me while I head back to the TV
With ice cream, look at the schedule of my 150+ channels
And maybe decide to watch something "on Demand"
Or DVR just in case I fall asleep before it's over...
I am a little older now, ya know-
Where DID the time go?

Tired on a Tuesday

Exactly.
I'm not even going to go into some long winded about what I could talk about, because--
Well, I'm tired.
Fatigued.
The job I have is not quite brain surgery, yet
It drains so. Just don't feel there's enough time.
Anyway.
I'm off to watch a Michelle Phfiffer(sp?) movie on HBO
Where she's involved with a younger man....
Hmm.
Gosh, like I've not lived THAT story!
I'm so tired, I don't even feel like talking about it--
So, I'm gonna get:

And curl with cat in front of the TV....
Tired on a Tuesday deserves it.

Monday Moan

....and no, Denzel Washington didn't knock on my door... ..

DRAT!

More like I put together our group paper for my college class. I admit I tried to get out of it, because I'd already done it before, plus this other team exercise we had to do. We all wrote our seperate parts and then it had to be put together in APA format--yep, that's I think to--APA, huh? The person who said she would do it, had a death in the family and the other teammate said she works until 4:30am, and besides she'd already done ONE. Whatever.

Then we had an online exam to take. 3 hours to take and it would time us, plus only one shot at it. So since I'm such a good student, I'd not read that much material. So open up another browser and do open book exam. Yep, my kinda exam...

Ya know where I'm going with this? Come question 9, as I looked up cross cultures in the workplace and its impact--I accidentally X'd me out of the exam
Done. Fini. OUT. I looked a big 0% for my score. There were 39 questions. I answered 9. I did leave a message for the instructor. It's 9:01pm as I type this. This class is officially over at 12:59AM. I start a new class tomorrow. The exam was worth 15 points. If I calculate it right, I could get a high C. Not what I wanted--but it taught me, I gotta really at least SKIM the material...

Oh and a cat barfed on the floor.
Moan, is right.

I'm on my way to watch my DVR of 'Dancing With the Stars' with a dab of Blue Bell Ice cream...

Ain't all bad.

Check In

Day 2 of drip drops in my bedroom baby brown eye balls, as my Persnickety Pink Eye Experience endures. I drip drops 4 times a day. At this writing I got one more to drip for the day. In all honestly I do see a difference. My right eye is almost clear, while my left tries to catch up.

Pink eye.
Never had it.
Never want it again.
Made sure I kept to myself at work day. Hand washed. Sanitized. My house should get such treatment.

Red and some shades of pink, I do look quite divine in. However, not when my bedroom baby browns make me the star of some D+ Sci fi flick, "Brown Sugar's Perilous Pink X-ray Peepers.

Ain't really feelin' none of that.

So on this night, more snow falls in Dallas, the utility company did get my check in the night depository from last night, so water still runs in my bungalow (and yes, I still drank my 74 oz of water during work today), I'm headed to my purple jammies and then plop on the couch.

Got Blue Bell Caramel Turtle Fudge Ice Cream to ease the Perisnickity Pink Eye Experience-plus today's Young and the Restless episode--just WHO is Tucker McCall?

Life is good.

Burn Baby Burn

Tonight was one of those 'kinda wish I had a guy here ' nights. Purt near burnt the house down. Yea. Well. I have a nice fireplace and this was to be the coldest night --so far -- here in Dallas. So I splurged (!) for a Duraflame log. This was during the same jaunt to buy the $2.99 1/1 gallon of dee-lish-shus Blue Bell ice cream. See, I thought I'd open the chimney floo thingy the correct way.

Wrong.

I have astigmatism anyway, so most times stuff is fuzzy. Yea, my room was fuzzy all right---fuzzy with smoke. This little episode really did interrupt my DVR time. Opened windows, put on ceiling fans--stood outside--wonder if I should call 911. I was half way serious because I had phone in hang. I put the cats in a room that wasn't laced with smoke.

All in all, rooms are now clear. Windows are closed. Fans are off. I still don't know which way is the correct way to open the chimney floo thingy. Flowers or candles will be the decorative piece from now on.

Ice cream here I come. Cue the song--a little Disco Inferno by the Trammps...check out those outfits!

Monday...

Yes. Rejoice in the day the Lord has made. With Grace I awoke this morning.

However, it is still Monday.

All this is temporary.

Really need to write and pray for guidance on the public speaking. I feel God taps His foot while He gazes at me, asking, "What more do you think I need to show you, when I've showed you enough?"

Rejoice.

Car Update

I will miss my little Grandy Am, red duct tape and all....however I'm still in the fruit world. I now own a Chevy HHR. Looks like a big 'ol orange in my drive way. Great gas mileage. Reminds of a hearse--yet it's all mine---well, mine and the bank's!
It's funny--years ago--I was about 10 or 11, my mom and I were in a shoe store. She liked this one pair and I thought them ugly. Different sort of look than I usually went for. Mom said that's what made em cool--they were different. I look at this car the same way. To me its ugly, yet it's so different it makes it cool. After that day of shopping, I wound up buying those shoes. And I recall girls in my grade school really liked them.

And today, my car purchase reminds me of my mom, who passed away in 1971. The memory makes me smile, because I know her hand was in this car purchase. Today is her 80th birthday.

Now I need to finish today's episode of Young and the Restless-get rid of Chloe...now!

I am blessed.

OK--My choice for the New Food Network Star!

My fave-o-rite, Aaron McCargo is still in the game! He was indeed the best with Rachel Ray and his Brownie chef! The first time my peepers spotted him--I tagged him for the Next Food Network Star! Can Aaron keep it going? We'll find out next Sunday when the finalists are in Vegas! I'm there with spoon in hand and ice cream in dish!

I Painted....

I painted. Yea.

A space in my hallway that separates two of the bedrooms.

To the ceiling and about four foot wide or so. Yea, I painted.

I went to Sherwin-Williams for a paint sample. I figured that amount would be just right. It was--still have some left over. The color: "Fireworks." A reddish tone. It wound up being a bit more orange than I thought. Anyway, some stuff got painted that shouldn't. No....no cats were injured while the paint colored the wall-- :) Even tho this was a wall--I can see why I received "D's" in junior high art class. We'll see how it dries. The wall may dry darker, then I might consider using more of it in the hallway. I already have a mirror I want to put there. Not sure the mirror's color will match...we'll see. If not, I can always paint it.

Paint cures everything.

All in all, I'm proud of myself. My first paint job. Now we'll have to see if there's any more!

It's not bad--I mean, my first time out. But like I said, some stuff, like door frames got painted that weren't meant to. Yes, I used painters tape. Of course, there's a couple dots on the ceiling.

Thank goodness, ice cream is in the freezer.

Unity in the Democratic Party....maybe...

Barack and Hillary will meet Friday in Unity, New Hampshire. For their first joint campaign stop. As much as they are the same, their thoughts differ. Quite the interesting campaign it was. I'm sure there is some bitterness and 'what if..." I always believed it was her nomination to lose.

He is our Democratic nominee for President of these United States. My opinion is there can be no other Vice President. She should be that nominee. Both had ancestors that were not allowed the right to vote. Now here we are.

This is his presidency to lose. She should be Vice President. I personally feel Barack would be wrong to not invite her. While I believe Hillary would be wrong to not accept.

History.

The pages await.

Silence Can Be Golden----Sometimes!

From 4:30 yesterday afternoon until 3:30 pm today, I didn’t know if my phone, TV and internet would be available to me. OK—it’s not the “Oh, she just didn’t pay the bill” thing. Nope. I sent e-mail yesterday morning before I left my house around 7 am. When I got back home at 4:30. No dial tone, no internet, no TV. I wanted my 230 channels.

The Verizon Person told me he’d received other calls from my neck of the woods too. Unfortunately, as I burnt up minutes on my cell phone, his helpful hints of what to do—including taking the battery (about six inches long and three inches wide) out of its battery pack holder--didn’t work. He said to take it out and just put it back in. The battery had wires on the top, similar to a car battery. One end attached to the battery—a black wire and a red wire. The other end had prongs. It looked it needed to be plugged into something. He says, ‘No, you just need to put the battery back in the holder.” Nothing. He concluded I needed a Tech Person to come out. That couldn’t be until the next morning. First thing he said. The tech would call me at 8am to tell me what time he or she would arrive.

So no TV, no ‘net, no home phone. I should have read. Needed to read the book I’m hosting at a book club in July. A book club I was invited to last fall. I’ve read about 20 pages of the book. This was before; I accidentally left the book at DFW while I waited for my luggage, a couple weeks back. Back to last night—since I was so tired from volunteering at a writer’s conference all day-I curled in bed. A cat or two curled two. I figured it was one of those nights; God needed me to have some silence, and Know.

Now this morning, since I just knew the Tech person would call at 8 am and be here shortly there after, I headed to Wal-mart at 6:30 am. That is the BEST time to go to Wal-mart. Nobody there. Get in. Get out. Love it. I was home by 7:30. Only 30 minutes until the Tech Person calls.

At 9:30 a.m. after I showered and ready for George Stephanopoulos to tell me about “This Week…” still no Tech person. I had to leave at 10am for church. Call Verizon, and we set something up for 3:30ish-4 pm ish this afternoon. I get out of church, on the way to my lunch plans, I check my cell phone. The Tech Person called. He’s at my house right that second. It’s 12:40. I explain I wasn’t going to be home until later, that’s what was set up. The Tech Person says, “No Prob-just call me when you get there.” He says there’s some outside stuff he needs to do, yet the battery pack inside, may need to be replaced.

I get home at 3:30 pm. Aha! Dial tone. TV—yippee---I’ll get to see the New Food Network Star—and INTERNET!! However, the battery pack, in the back bedroom still beeps. A red light on the pack means to ‘replace battery’. I call Tech Person. “No prob- I can fix that!”

He soon rings the doorbell. Cats scatter. Tech Person stands there with a battery in his hand—just in case. I show him where the battery pack is. “Ah, that’s your problem. The battery needs to be plugged in!” He plugs it in. All the lights come on like they should. All is right with the world.

This was two part problem, however. Yesterday, I had power outages, sometime during the day. Also there was a new Verizon install in the area. Where my wires meet with the other folks’ wires, switches and doo hickies—I guess, like a grid—someone didn’t notice my switches or whatever doo hickeys weren’t on---due to the power outage. All in all, the Tech Person had to call somebody else to get all the wires, switches and doohickeys in their right positions. “It should never happen again,” He says.

God gave me a night of needed rest, to reflect and to be thankful.

Tonight I have popcorn for my viewing of Aaron McCargo, Jr., who should be the New Food Network Star!

Guilty Pleasures......

The Next New Food Network Star----Aaron McCargo Jr---is still my favorite entree!

Bag filled with strawberry mini fig newtons---130 calories. Just enough taste. Love em.

Watching VH1 Classics. Remembering how it USE to be.

Blue Bell (the best ice cream in the country--OK--maybe Texas) fave flavor Chocolate Covered Strawberry---I'd forget about Terrance Howard for a half gallon of this creamy taste of heaven.

Onion rings.

Mint Mocha Chip Frappucino (Light)

Watching "You've Got Mail" for the zillionth time and wishing Tom Hanks answered my mail.

Purr of a content cat.

Watching the Young and the Restless. Trying to remember if Victor got snipped years ago, because his soon to be bride is pregnant. Discussing all the happenings in Genoa City with the work chums.

Listening to my favorite Barry Manilow songs....cue "All the Time"

.....did I mention Blue Bell Ice cream....?

American Idol and Dancing with the Stars...

Should we say Jason Cast-OFF? What was he thinking/singing? As much as his eyes are gorgeous, his performances---were as horrid. I really don't get David Archuleta...maybe if I was 15? Syesha....does have a good voice-yet I've not 'felt' her. Her second song--I was with Randy on that. Didn't stop the moment for me. David Does He like Older Women? Cook--is my hear. I'm not a Who fan, yet--he had me. He said he was born in 1982. When Hungry Like the Wolf came out...gosh I remember when that was about the only video MTV played--that is when they did play videos--I just like him.

Dancing with the Stars...sorry to see Mario go, yet glad Marissa Jaret Winokur is still there. Like she said, you don't need to be a size 2 to dance. She's showing how we big girls show out stuff across the floor! And I'm checking the schedule to take ballroom this summer--I'll make sure I have 911 on my cell speed dial.

Time for a couple spoonfuls of ice cream and pet a cat.
