Monday Stuff

Decided to join the 21st century (12 years late) by the toss of my land line phone. Forget the fact I have not had a dial tone for close to two weeks or so on said land line. I refuse to pay a tech to make a house call and dish out out dough. I already know the only one of my three jacks is jacked.

....and with a new hi falutin' cell phone I could Facebook anyway and anytime I want.

So I did comparison shop. I am amazed if a phone even rings anymore. Seems like an afterthought. I cannot see spending hundreds of dollars on a phone. So I am not. I remember when I had to carry a dime for the pay phone! I was told I could keep my home phone number. Might take a couple days--yet it is possible. Happy there. I think I found a phone. I have Plan B if need be. Feel pretty good of my possible choice.

Maybe this whole 21st century won't be so bad after all.

Stay tuned.

'net NO

I did not have access to the internet from about 7pm Thursday night until sometime today. I realized I had internet at 1pm this afternoon. Thursday night it just went awaym after I did a couple e-mails. I had an error of 'no access'. I thought there was just a burp in my Verizon system somewhere. I knew I was current on the bill, so I knew THAT wasn't it. Still no 'net on Friday morning. I get home last night--and NO 'net.

I called Verizon then. The rep was a nice guy. He said the connection between Verizon and my house was 'asleep'. Sure dude. He tried to 'jump' it a few times and nothing happened. All in all, he said he would order me a new router, which I could pick up at a Verizon store. The store is less than 5 minutes from me, but at our call, the store closed about 5 minutes before. No worries. There was life before the internet, at least I think there was.

Anyway, I pounded out 1250 words on a short story I never quite finished. The inside of the store was weak. I admit the writing was fun. No Facebook comments, except my cat was upset he could not get on HIS blog. I was OK with that, because the cat is popular than me--so I digress.

So this afternoon, I realized I am connected to the entire world again. For the couple nights that I wasn't--really weren't bad. Things appeared a little more simple.

I liked it.

Terrific Terra Cotta Pot

I like this one. Yep. I really, really do like it. This is a 4 inch "bell" terra cotta pot. See? It kinda looks like a bell. It's a bit more pricier retail than Wal-mart, Michael's etc. The pot sells for $1.99 at Garden Ridge. Granted I have not scoured every store, thrift store and/or nursery looking for pots, alas Garden Ridge has been the only place -so far--I've found the bell pot.

Three different shades of acrylic metallic blue paint were sea sponged over a base color of metallic amethyst. After all was said and dry (very important the pot is dry), I brushed on blue glitter paint. You may be able to see some of the glitter. The glare is the lamp I had shining on the pot. :)

I posted a photo on my FaceBook Wall and to my surprise one of my classmates asked "Do you ship?" Had to be honest I am in the midst of ship pricing as we type. Her question gave way to a smile. Why? 'cuz I never ever gave consideration tI could change the face of a terra cotta pot

...and I am glad I can. Really, really glad.

Day Off

Yes, I had today off. Had a million things planned: clean the kitchen, get stuff ready for the trash, work on my pots and some homework*****What I wound up doing was sweep the room that has the wood flooring, and picked up some stuff, tried to bond with a not so small kitten anymore, who lives some time in my shed. OK, I feed the wildlife, from possums (not intentionally) to squirrels (intentionally), yet this not so small kitten has shown up about about every day since July.*****I've seen him at another house a half block away. Yet, my shed and my backyard seem to be haven for him. Today I cornered him in a shed corner, on one of the shelves. After a mighty "I'm a tiger" hiss, I pet and talked to him. He let me, yet wasn't really feelin' it. I didn't try to pick him up. I do treasure my face. :)*****So a couple more times of pet and my coo time, he found some space between the wall and the shelf and scampered away. I'm sure into the wisteria bush, where a t-rex could hide quite well. I saw him later as he stalked the birds. The birds won. I left the not so small kitten be. I figure in time we might bond more...*****That was pretty much my day off, well, I did watch some TV, dreamt of ripping up my carpet, and thought how much I don't like the new Facebook...*****On top of that, I am real glad I have Friday off too......wait, isn't The Lion King released tomorrow? And, uh...the not so small kitten and I will have another go round, I'm sure! Stay tuned.

Bittersweet Monday Moment

I'm a Facebook fiend. I admit it. Once was a doubter-now I'm not. Granted, I do not play Farmville or any of the games. In fact, I 'hide' the messages I get of others playing them. I like the fact chums I've know in every phase of my life, from kindergarten until now are my 'friends' there. Nice to keep in touch, however not every one really does.

They get on Facebook for just a moment--kinda like Bear. I'd mentioned him before. A man, I had a history with and unfortunately no future. We drifted always back to each other. Never quite sure why. Never really had a boyfriend/girlfriend thing even when we did date, so many years ago.

In recent times, the only time we had conversation was at church. A usual hug, some chat and occasional say "let's do coffee" and we never did. Bear started IBOC in the late 90's. We'd split up alot by then and I thought the whole church thing was a phase he was going thru. Let's just say I knew Bear , when we were both "in the world". My awakening didn't happen until 2003, and at the time Bear and I weren't even speaking.

Anyway, the whole point I'm making, our relationship was a memory or two of a past, civil conversation today, and not really any tomorrow. Well, on Facebook, I found out Bear changed his status to "married."

That woke me up at 6:05 this morning. Our relationship wasn't BFF status, yet I would think would Bear would tell me he was married. I mean, at church, text (which we'd done the week before), and has my phone numbers. How do I feel? There's a piece of me wonders if I'd done this or that different, maybe...just maybe...I've changed alot since Bear and I met those years ago. We never made time to know each more now. Maybe we just weren't suppose to.

Then I remember it does take two to the row the boat. My arms got tired. I forced alot of our relationship because I loved him and never planned to leave him. He could be vague at times and I just didn't get it. Denial, I'm sure. Even when the going stunk--I still felt we could work it out. Bear had qualities I longed for in a man--things I had missed in others.

So yea, Bear may have his Mrs. I did text him this morning to congrat him. I've not heard from him. When I got home, his Facebook Page was gone.

And so is the friendship that never really got a chance.

Bittersweet.

Touch of Time

It's 11:23pm as I write this. Should be in bed. I told myself I was going go at 10 om tonight. Forget the blog post for today and get some sleep, I told myself.
After I was OK with the American Idol cast off tonight, I zipped thru yesterday and today's episode of Y & R--then came in my PC room to check e-mails for one last time today and there it was....
An e-mail on Facebook. I'd actually requested to "friend" this former high school class mate. He wrote back and said his heart just lept from his chest and crashed to the floor. He was shocked to hear from me. Honestly, he and I were not the best of friends. In fact, he was a pretty good rough neck and used the word 'nigger' as easily he'd slam down a Mountain Dew in the cafeteria. Since I was 50 percent of the black student body then, I had 50 percent change he aimed it at me...
Any way, this guy, I'll call him Sebastian, is the reason I became 'cool' in high school. He razzed me alot. Picked on me, especially in this one class where he sat in front of me. I believe I even wrote about him on the blog---I'll have to dig it out. Just the same, one day, I threw a zinger back him, some silliness with "honey" or "darling' in it. He turned red. The kids around him laughed. The rough neck turned beet red. And my life in high school was never quite the same way since. I believed some where along the line we shared a couple beers, yet...
On this night, Sebastian said how over the years, he's thought of the words he said to me. He said I never deserved it. Sebastian said only a real lady would even think about trying to 'friend' him after all he did. He he apologized for his behavior and hoped I would forgive him.
The touch of time takes care of everything...
Now I must get some sleep.

A Birthday

...and it's NOT mine...at least not yet! Nope. It's Bear's birthday. I won't say the number, except he's four years younger than yours truly. My reason for this post: I thought of Bear today. Wondered if he had a grand day (as birthdays should be) and if he ate some good cake.

I didn't call Bear to wish him happy tidings. Naw, I did the 21st Century way of doing things: I Facebook'd Bear and then text'd him. Use to be a day, I'd call Bear to wish him a good day, plus I'd take him out to eat.

Honestly, I considered to invited Bear out to dinner. Only had about enough money for one burger on Wendy's Value Menu. We could split it. :) But I wound up not doing it. Thought about it too much, I guess, hence I thought myself right out of it. Even tho I believe it woulda been fun over laughs and fight over the last french fry.

Maybe I'll have another chance to not think myself right out of it.
Maybe...

Sundown

Planned to clean my kitchen and bathroom after I came home from getting my praise on at Inspiring Body of Christ Church. Honestly, the message, Pastor Rickie Rush, preached, was up my alley--you wonder about your blessing. Your behaviour when you go thru a storm. It all hit--as usual. After all that I planned to do stuff, including to work on my novella. .
Well, none of that got done.

What did I do?
Spent way over an hour "chatting" with two different chums on Facebook. One has known me since we were 15, and resides in Iowa. The other chum I met approximately 15 years ago, when we worked at the same company here in Dallas, where she remains. Even tho the chats were different, they were quite the same.

Enjoyed and smiled at memories of the relationships. Good and bad times with both. Yet, all in all, I am glad I spent Sunday chatting with old friends. I could hear our laughs through the computer. Both know me from different times of my life, yet both know me well.
The kitchen and bathroom can wait. As one of my chums quoted Katie Scarlett O'Hara, "Tomorrow is another day!"
Nice frosting for this cake of a day.

I thank Him for this one.

Sure It Is

Almost Friday. I've not written here since Monday. And there's been stuff to talk about. Lots of stuff. Which I meant to do---each day. Alas, I wrote about some of it on my Facebook Wall

I cannot tell a lie. I love this blog, yet I find I love Facebook too. Never thought I would since I was on it almost 10 months before I really did anything on it. Oh, I don't do those games and such. Nope. I just comment to the folks I "friended." Couple times I IM'd with two folks at a time. I admit I had fun. They didn't even know each other. One was a chum from high school and another was sister of another friend of mine I met here in Texas.

Technology.

Nonetheless, Facebook or no, it's almost Friday. And there ain't a lot more you can about that.

Stay tuned.

Saturday Scene

I've enterted the age of Twitter.
And need I say I really don't get it? I'm on Facebook too and still not grasped its concept.
Sure, I've been in contact with folks I've not been in contact with for years, but...
Almost as if folks have abandoned e-mails. Just like e-mails, then text messages took the place of that old fashioned invention: the telephone.
You remember the telephone? When all it did was just ring?
And your parents told you to carry a dime for the pay phone?
I'm told being on Twitter and Facebook will help network my writing and other ventures.
Really?
Guess that comes in time.
See, on Twitter gotta a couple followers, which includes two furry critters. This is after my week or so being a member.
As for Facebook-Alot of memories from the fast and furious high school days in a small central Iowa town.
It's not all bad.
On Facebook, I can play Scrabble with somebody either cross town or cross county.
That's cool even tho I still lose!
