More Jump

This morning, attempted to jump out of my bed, however when there are a neighborhood of cats glued to your legs--well, the circulation ain't what it should be! Nonetheless, finally made it up and ran a bit late to a planning meeting from the writers' conference I'm associated with. Great ideas and great gab. To think June 26th will be here before you know it!

Then I headed to see a chum of mine in a play "Song for Coretta"--about five women in line to pay their respects to the late Lady of Civil Rights. My chum, as well as the entire cast were great! So much talent my chum has. After the performance, the cast was in the lobby to meet and greet, and my chum told some folks there I was a writer--and my jaw dropped. I told them alittle bit about a one act play I wrote, then got the attention back to my chum. Nice, unexpected moment tho.

As I dallied thru some store, I heard a song I'd not heard in awhile. Got on YouTube and found the video, which I remembered. Makes me smile as I recall going out, dancin' and partyin' until the bar closed--now THAT would be novel! :)

February 27, 2006 was Monday

On this day in 2006, I was wheeled into the ER at approximately 11am. I didn't leave until 7:30 the next morning when I was taken, cot and all to have a CT Scan. Got paranoid as I had to lie still. After about a half hour or so there, I was wheelchaired to the elevator, which stopped on the 9th floor of the hospital. As the elevator opened, I bout bust an artery when I saw "Neurology" on the 9th Floor. And nobody--friends or family knew where I was.
Little did I know I wouldn't leave until March 24, 2006.

Fast forward to this day in 2010. Sun shines. Cat is in the open window. I'm headed to a chum's Bridal Shower. The same chum who sat with me, for hours on end, in the hospital. This chum admitted she feared I wouldn't make it.

Well, I'm still here.

I'm not the most traditional person when it comes to showers, so since my chum asked for a peach pie--I baked one. It's cooling now.

So if you excuse me, I gotta go get ready.

More life left to be lived.
I am blessed.

Wednesday Wonder

Every neighborhood has one. Ya know, the person who knows everybody on the street, what they do and where they go. Mine is Mister Bob. A seventy-something nice ol' gent who informed me right off the bat, he was OK living alone and wasn't looking for a woman.

Well, OK.

Mister Bob also informed me how he once shared coffee with the lady who once lived in this house I now call home. How such a fine lady she was and how saddened he was of her passing. Mister Bob filled me in on every fact of our street.

Mister Bob lives right across the street from me. He's like the dad who watches from the window. I'm sure he has my schedule down. We do our smiles, waves and small chit chat. And ya know know, I felt safe knowing Mister Bob was close at hand.

Yet, I've not seen Mister Bob for about a week. His van wasn't parked there since before Thanksgiving. I knew he had grown kids, so I figured time was spent with them. Then last night, his van re-appeared. Yet, not the way Mister Bob parks it. He's backs into this driveway--his van now is the other way around. With the rain last night, I thought perhaps it was closer to front door for him. Yet, I never saw lights in his house. Turned in early, I thought.

Then tonight I get home. Mister Bob's house was as dark as the sky. The van hasn't moved. I wonder what's going on? It was too late to knock on my other neighbor's door to ask if they knew what happen to Mister Bob. If they know if he's OK. I will make a point to ask them tomorrow.

And for the moment--I don't feel as safe as I did.

Stay tuned.

Sure It Is

Almost Friday. I've not written here since Monday. And there's been stuff to talk about. Lots of stuff. Which I meant to do---each day. Alas, I wrote about some of it on my Facebook Wall

I cannot tell a lie. I love this blog, yet I find I love Facebook too. Never thought I would since I was on it almost 10 months before I really did anything on it. Oh, I don't do those games and such. Nope. I just comment to the folks I "friended." Couple times I IM'd with two folks at a time. I admit I had fun. They didn't even know each other. One was a chum from high school and another was sister of another friend of mine I met here in Texas.

Technology.

Nonetheless, Facebook or no, it's almost Friday. And there ain't a lot more you can about that.

Stay tuned.

Tis Friday Eve!

As I pulled into my driveway tonight-a bit tired and sweat drenched from my bike & treadmill jaunt at the rec center, the radio began to play a song. Not really one of my all time favorites, yet brings up a memory from a time far, far away--basically, the '80's, in yester-century.

Ya know, big hair--on men and women, with alot of mousse and gel. In my case, I still held remnants of my jheri curl--just in different styles. I digress. Anyway, by 1986, I'd moved back to Iowa from my second (and so far, last) habitation in Kansas City. Yet, I still kept in touch with my KC Chum who had introduced me to crepes, Bloody Marys on a Sunday before lunch, and the Village People.

This particular time in 1986, my KC Chum, drove to visit me in Iowa. If I remember right, his car was about the size of the Love Boat. I was amazed it the 'ship' made the 250 miles, without a life raft nor Captain Stuebing! I digress again.

The whole point is: that weekend a wonderful time was had my all! Partied like it was 1999, and it was just 1986. And this song was one we danced to. When the DJ began to spin it at the bar, I recall my KC Chum jumped and announced must dance. And we did.

So every time I hear this song, even 23 years later, I smile. Forget about the senior rec center I belong to and put the trash by the curb and that bedtime is usually 10:30pm.

I smile about a time when 10:30pm was about the time I went out and STILL went to the work the next day. :) Let's cue up alittle Peter Gabriel on this Friday Eve--he's gonna tell us about some "Sledgehammer!"

Sunday Still...

IS the weekend! Hey, no work tomorrow and I am ALL over that!
Really need to put my laundry in the dryer and wash my dishes...
Why?
Or I could pet a cat, read a book and drink a cup o joe!
Like that a whole lot better.
Ya know, on this still the weekend, I think of folks that have come and gone in my life.
Even folks of recent times. Even folks that never knew me. Seasons change. And that's OK.
Memories never change.
And I smile
Like I smile a whole bunch because of music that conjurs up memories.
So I feel like savoring some more Rick Springfield and "Human Touch"
Somewhere along the way I saw this concert tour.
How more hot can somebody be?
Like I said Rick Springfiend ain't your daddy's AARP!

And now gotta get that cup o joe!
Enjoy the rest of still the weekend!

Get By

Did lunch with my best friend, Bingo today. Known each other since we were 12. Yea--she'll tell you in a minute how many years that is. I usually decline. Chowed on tasty Chinese Cuisine. Settled in for a good long over due girl chat. Which may or may not be such a good thing.

Naw. It was all good. Our journey has been long, so being blunt is --well--part of us. She got on me about my writing. Like why am I not doing more of it? Why don't have more of it out there? And the you should be making money from it! Bingo said the last story she read was one of my best, even tho there any dead people, Jesus or cats in it. :)

OK--you can laugh. Even tho Bingo says my last story about Jesus moved her, it's OK to write something else, because He's OK with it. The dead people are my parents--and she says it's great I want to write about them, yet they really understand too. And cats? Bingo loves cats too, yet we can let cats cat nap awhile.

The last short story Bingo spoke of had a shape shifter in it. A woman morphed in a honey colored grizzly. Nobody died. Jesus didn't show up (well, as far as we know!) and no cat anywhere near. Bingo actually gave me the story idea from a movie we saw, so back in the 70's, which had a killer grizzly in it. We laughed alot at that movie--I digress.

So Bingo says: What is your problem? Why do you get so far and just stop? Why do you talk great stuff, tweak too much and still just stop? Then start up with something else but stop with that? Fear of Failure? Fear of Success? You have a gift, why aren't you using it? What is it?

I had no response, except to say she's right--- again. Then Bingo cuts to the quick even more-- friends DO that--the real ones anyway--says, "Why are you depriving others from your writing? You don't know who you've touched or who you may touch!"

Bingo gave me that look.

I get by with a little help from my friends.

I am blessed.
