...And Now We Wait

The votes are now being tallied. I plan to pop some corn, curl with a cat, and wait....and oh, did I mention, pray? Regardless of this outcome, History unfolds before us.

I remember when Nixon resigned. My then best friend and I, were at Iowa State University, for a week long high school year book How To seminar, (to look back, we were 16 and had NO business being alone on a college campus with college age kids--yet, I digress). We sat and watched Richard Nixon, the first president to resign. My then best friend said, "We're watching history."

Barack Obama's grandmother passed a day before the election. She didn't live long enough to witness if her grandson would be elected to the highest seat in the land. Then I realized, his grand mother may have known. How this night would turn out. That it was OK for her to rest then be refreshed as she walked with angels. Maybe...just maybe..."Toot" knew it was all ready done.

Tonight, we're watching History again. Just wait a little while longer...

Headlines: Right Now-Obama and Biden

Doesn't ring my chimes.

I'm still into History being made. In my opinion, for the moment. History has stalled.

Why Joe Biden?

I'm sure he's a fine politics guy. Been in Washington since the '70's. But isn't he just a few years younger than John McCain? Is Joe Biden as much about "Change" as Barack Obama? Is he in touch with young folk of America? Is Joe Biden their hip grandfather? Or does he cater to that section of Americans, who remember how things use to be-for those folks who still won't even shake Barack Obama's hand?

Gotta tell you, I wanted Hillary as the VP. Dream Team. Scream Team--whatever their match would be called. THAT woulda been History. Change. Something not seen before.

Right now? Same ol' same ol'. Yawn.

Wouldn't it be something if John McCain's VP is from out side his party? Someone who would really rock the boat? Didn't think that was possible. Now I think otherwise.

Barack Obama, I've been in your corner. I'm not as confident as I was a couple days ago about you, Michelle and the girls, taking up residence in that house on Pennslvania Avenue. Right this minute, I ain't feelin' it. I hope I'm wrong.

By November, I'll overdose on articles, DVRs of George Stephanopoulos, and listen to all that's said about the Obama-Biden ticket. Gotta be shown why you two are Olympic Gold. Because right now, as I look at the replay of this presidential relay-you're close to the line--close to being disqualified.

Right now--alot of work to be done.

Up there...

The media tells me some folks believe Barack Obama is ‘uppity’ because he’s a graduate of Ivy League schools: Columbia and Harvard Law. Due to those achievements, it’s said he just can’t seem to connect with some voters.

Really?

Let’s see, The First President Bush and the current Bush, who vacates the White House in January 2009, both attended Yale. Then President John F. Kennedy and little brother Bobby both attended Harvard. Then there’s Bill Clinton, our first supposed ‘Black President,’ attended Yale for his law degree, only after completion of studies at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

All that ivy sure blocks my view. Both Bushes are successful business men in their own right. JFK was Catholic, which scared some folks. His little brother Bobby, contributed to the Civil Rights Movement—which became a building block for Barack Obama’s position today. Then Bill Clinton was considered ‘inexperienced’—but he did have that Rhodes Scholar thing on his side. Was ‘uppity’ an adjective to describe any of these other Ivy League men? I doubt not. Just amazed the at the degree of scrutiny Barack Obama recieves for not looking like the ‘other’ guys.

I’ve been called uppity all her life. When it was uttered by people I knew—both Black (which includes family) and White-it hurt, I admit. Accusations of I did not sound or act Black enough—my goodness, what DOES that mean anyway? Or that I had too many White friends. Plus the closest I ever got to anything Ivy League was the purchase of a $1.98 ivy plant at Wal-mart.

Even in the 21st Century, a little stereotype goes a long way.

Come November 4, 2008, whether it’s an Obama win or loss, I will continue to bask in pride. My ancestors who built this country—literally-had families broken apart by being sold like livestock, yet treated lower than. My ancestors were denied any rights of any kind. For a time, slave logs did not list their names, just male, female or child. Because of what my ancestors endured then, there is success now.

Call it ‘uppity’ if you want. Call it a celebration for a moment in time that was and no longer is.

Unity in the Democratic Party....maybe...

Barack and Hillary will meet Friday in Unity, New Hampshire. For their first joint campaign stop. As much as they are the same, their thoughts differ. Quite the interesting campaign it was. I'm sure there is some bitterness and 'what if..." I always believed it was her nomination to lose.

He is our Democratic nominee for President of these United States. My opinion is there can be no other Vice President. She should be that nominee. Both had ancestors that were not allowed the right to vote. Now here we are.

This is his presidency to lose. She should be Vice President. I personally feel Barack would be wrong to not invite her. While I believe Hillary would be wrong to not accept.

The View....

OK--I DVR'd an episode from a few weeks ago, of The View and finally sat down to watch last night. I obivously am not an everyday viewed, eventho, I enjoy Whoopi--yes, I'm one of the twelve people that enjoyed "Jumpin' Jack Flash'---I digress---after a few minutes into Hot Topics, I wondered does Elisabeth Hasselbeck ever stay quiet?

Yes, she brings youthful, conservatism to the show-cute, perky, all those adjectives--yet, I wondered how many times the other ladies want her in time out? Don't get me wrong. Everyone has 'their View'--however on this particular show, Elisabeth commented how it was too much when Barack and his wife, Michelle, bumped knuckles.


Elisabeth thought people would scrutinise it. Oh my....and tomorrow, June 18th, Michelle Obama will be guest host.

The DVR will be ready!

nonetheless....the battle between the Two Davids brews....I'll be watching--ice cream in tow...

Why can't the presidential election be held like American Idol? John, Hillary and Obama, just get on the stage. Debate each other. Chat with the audience...maybe even show that creative side---after all Bill did play sax on Arsenio....Leave it to the audience vote....>BAM!<>

Oh wait..David Cook might just win that too!
