There here is a slice of Egg Pie. I admit to never made one. Except come Thursday night, if all goes well, that story will change.
A co-worker, I'll call Barkley, perked up when I mentioned I like to bake pies. Before I finished he asks, "Can you make an Egg Pie?" I stare at him. There is such a thing? I asked. Turns out yes...yes there is. I searched online and found this photo. Barkley announced "THAT's IT!" and about devoured the screen. Barkley said Egg Pie, was similar to a Chess Pie, only richer.
Now, I admit to also not knowing what a Chess Pie was until I moved to Dallas. However, I have since baked a few Chess Pies, They've received forks up and empty plates. So Thursday night I will bake this for Barkley and take it to work on Friday.
Barkley is 6'5, 28 years old, played college football and is on a workout regimen that makes this Saturday his 'cheat day' with food. He has the whole menu planned, except the dessert. When I mentioned baking pies, Barkley offered to pay for his beloved Egg Pie.
Stay tuned.

Snow More
Snow. Dallas. It does happen. Just not much. Sure we had that 12 inch snow fall in Feb '11. It was gone in about 3 days. This week of ice and snow has been different. There has been no meltdown. We've been in the teens and 20's since Tuesday. Dallas is not this cold this long. And to top it all off..
The Super Bowl is here. This weather is not suppose to happen. Not for something this big. Last weekend it was 75 degrees all weekend. I got Starbucks frappucinos because it was so warm. Not this go round. Today more sour milk was poured more on the Super Bowl. Six people were injured when melting ice chunks fell from Cowboy Stadium's roof and tore thru a tent being set up for the game. They were workers on the tent. All went to the hospital, one is may be critical.
Tonight a concert starring Prince was on, then off, then on--and off for good. Folks had shown up at the venue not knowing. They paid at least $1500 a ticket for this charity event. The real story from the event planner couldn't fund the event to Prince was a no-show hasn't been said yet.
OK, for as far as my day. My workplace closed the office today due to the weather. I was shocked. With the ice we had earlier this week and the skeleton crew that did show up--the building did not close. This morning, I called our bad weather hot line on a lark. Heck, I was ready to get out of bed. "CLOSED".
Let's just the say my day looked so much better under my quilts and the cats snugged so my circulation was cut off.
Snow. More scheduled for Sunday.
I'm just sure Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboy who paraded and fought for the Super Bowl to come here, wished he could get a do-over...

Tonight...
ahh...The Texas Baseball Rangers beat the NY Yankees about 15 miles from my chateau-
And my Iowa Hawkeyes beat the Michigan Wolverines at Michigan--SWEET!
Ventured to see the movie "Red" starring Bruce Willis, with Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich with the cutie who played Dr. McCoy in the Pre-Star Trek (can't remember his name---YET!)--I enjoyed the movie and feel in love with Bruce Willis all over again...
Got some school work I need to hurry and do, yet in the meantime as Sir Elton John says how
Saturday Night is just all right.....I like it like this!

Really....
It's Friday.
And as I write this
The Texas BaseBall Rangers
Lead the NY Yankees....
In the first game of the final series before the WORLD SERIES...
Gotta admit not being much of a baseball babe--
Too many games mainly-
Not enough action--except there are menfolk
In tight pants--just like football---
--I digress--
Anyway, I'm a Rangers fan for as long as they last..
They have NEVER gone this far ever..
Honestly, the town has forgotten who the
Dallas Cowboys are...
Of course being 1-3 doesn't help, so
In the meantime,
I'm gonna curl with a cat and watch more of the victory I hope Texas slams on NYC....Friday.
I love it like that....really!

Gotta Do
I gotta do stuff before the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game. Do sense game will be lots tighter than last week. Yet Miles Austin, Marion Barber, Tony Romo and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys shall be victorious at game's end. Yet, I'll be ticked at me if I ain't got this stuff done by kick off tonight like:
Unclog the vacuum cleaner
Wash my dishes (so wish I had a dishwasher besides my two hands)
Mop kitchen and bathroom floor
Go thru stuff in back bedroom to either GoodWill or toss
Throw out stuff from fridge if it's been there since I moved in 2008
Before I start all this, I gotta do pancakes.
Stay tuned.

Tide on Thursday
I don't much root for Texas college teams--yet, I decided the Texas Longhorns would get my 'rah-rah' for their quest to be #1 in the Division I college football ranks. Roll OVER the Alabama Crimson is what I waited to see. Then in the first series, Number 12, aka QB Colt McCoy, goes down. Shoulder injury. Game is in second quarter as I write this and Texas is on the losing end. Will Colt be able to come back? That remains to be seen.
With Colt McCoy out of the game, it's as if the game has lost some zeal.
I still believe in miracles.
Stay tuned.

Saturday Sulk
Iowa Hawkeyes lost to Ohio State.Recorded the game, due to attending a housewarming. Didn't listen to any sports coming home. Nope. Just blared music. Got home, fast forwarded thru commercials and with just a few second left in regulation, score tied 24-24 my DVR STOPS! I didn't set up to record enough time!!
Race to my PC. Pull up the Des Moines Register which tells me how Iowa's Rose Bowl dreams slip away, 27-24. Lost on a field goal in overtime. However, the red-shirt QB played a very good game for his first start. Yes, there were errs, yet the score wasn't 45-10 Ohio State, which is what I thought it might be.
As for the housewarming, I arrived with about 20 mins before it was scheduled to end. Why? Due to traffic and getting lost. I didn't realize my chum had moved out into the sticks--literally. I passed horses and cows. I LOVED her home though! Except for the neighbors being right on top of each other, her home is one I would purchase. Got a little envious. Of course, you always want what others have.
So there were my two sulks today. However did lunch with someone I use to be close to. We both realized that closeness never really went away. The way he hugged me confirmed that. A bit of needed growth--on both our parts-reaped rewards.
All in all, nice day indeed.

High Noon

On a gorgeous sun draped Saturday.
Cats are fed and now staked out an open window to call their own.
Gotta DVR the Iowa Hawkeye-Northwestern Wildcats due to I must
Get up and out of the house. I feel confident they'll be 10-0 when the sun sets!
Why can't the sports guys give 'em some love? Yea, they may have all the
Stuff the Gators or 'bama has--yet the Iowa Hawkeyes are 9-0 some kinda way.
Hmm.
Anyway, enjoy your day, cuz I'm sure gonna enjoy mine!
Go Hawks!

And It Is...
Friday. Finally.
The Weekend to see if my Iowa Hawkeyes can go 10-0 on Saturday. Then can Tony Romo and Roy Williams, of the Dallas Cowboys connect ALOT against the Donovan McNabb and the rest of the Eagles Sunday Night?
I'll consider to scrub everything for top to bottom, throw stuff from a back bedroom and maybe even do a bit of writing on the novel I say I want to write...
Hmm.
To savor ice cream and pet a cat may win out. You know...priorities!
In the meantime, gotta cue this song I STILL love 30 years later cuz it is: WEEKEND!

So Where Were We?
Oh, yes, MacKenzine Phillips. She was on Oprah again today. I missed her the first time, so I may need to tune in, since Oprah is repeated tonight. With the drugs and now this--explains alot of Mackenzie's behavior. Stay tuned. On a lighter note, of COURSE, watched "Dancing With The Stars!" And I'm glad Michael Irvin is safe to dance another night. Unless his new pro dancer/teacher steps up the game, Michael will be gone before he shows us anything. I'm sure Michael's new dancer/teacher is nervous-first time on the show and all. However, there was a new male pro dancer/teacher who received nothing but kudos from the judges. Poor Michael, he deserves more than the "4" two of the judges gave him. Monday is coming-and I got faith in you Michael!
On the eating-less-calories-and-working- out-more front is kinda stuck in neutral. I've been good on the eating less calories, not so good on the working out part. Still good on the drinking water part tho. Need to get the body moving more. I keep saying I want to do aerobics, while what I really want to do is a dance class. Ballroom, sure--but more jazz, ballet or even tap. They have a tap class at the rec center, alas it's during the day. I'd love to take a jazz class, like I did in the early 90's and received "A"s for my solo. My teacher, who ran a dance company, said I had 'presence'--yet now I'd need a class that was a bit gentler to my older bones. Leaping across the floor with a bunch of 20 somethings ain't my bowl of Blue Bell Cookies n Cream ice cream anymore.
There's lots more, like the Iowa Hawkeyes
battle Penn State tomorrow night. Trust me, I will be glued to the TV, plus the Dallas Cowboys play on Monday Night Football--and they GOTTA win, especially in that Billion Dollar Bungalow Jerry built. Ya know, I still feel Jerry's Bungalow shoulda been built in Dallas. I don't care what the Dallas city leaders say--that was something, that shoulda stayed in Dallas.

Got some Friday to enjoy with a song that still makes my toe tap. Little known kinda disco ditty by Chic. Had it on vinyl and I dedicate it Michael Irvin, 'You're more than those 4's the judges gave you. In my book you're a 26 (that's the song's title)!

Monday Now
On this Monday the buzz around town remains the Dallas Cowboy victory over the Tampa Bay Bucs. How Patrick Crayton showed us stuff we've not seen before. Had to DVR the game because I was still at church when it began. Drove home in the rain, which lengthened my usual 25 minute drive--and not once-.not ONCE did I tune my radio to the game! So difficult to do, I nearly downed my French Vanilla Cappuccino in one gulp. The Cowboys won. Just one game does not the season make--yet it was nice for the victory. A solid victory...Which should be had next Monday. Why? Because I pray the town will still be a buzz over a Dallas Cowboy win over the NY Football Giants Sunday night. That Patrick Crayton, again shows, he can step up with Roy Williams for a 1-2 WR punch. It will have been the first game in the Jerry Jones $1Billion Party Barn aka Cowboy Stadium (for now). And then later on Monday night, I'll be transfixed to Dancing With The Stars! No joke.
So Next Monday, I'll be set again. Yet for this Monday, I got my 74 ounces of water down, trash by the curb and wondered if the rain will ever stop, or should we ask a guy named Noah for bid to build a big boat....nonetheless...all is good.
And I am blessed.

Thursday Thought Part II
Like my shoulders.Just like I like Roy Williams, WR for the Dallas Cowboys, and his arms...I digress.
See, I stared at myself ,in the mirror, as I wore my sundress today. Shoulders exposed. I liked what I saw. ALOT. Way back in the long ago day, I'd never wear anything that showed shoulders or my arms. Too flabby--too something I reckoned. I'd wear short sleeves--but never >gasp!<>
A few years ago, a Big Girl I worked with regularly donned a sleevless shirt. I couldn't believe it! This for all the world to see--especially this particular night, because she was (and is) a stand up comedian. And about to head on stage. I asked her how could she expose her arms like that? Big Girl looked at me like I'd lost my mind. Her response, "Baby, I do not care. And I look good!"
The next day, I ventured out in colorful, sleeveless top. A bit hesitant. Yet comfort eased through me and admitted to myself, I liked what I saw. Sleeveless was hear to stay!
Back to Roy E. Williams and those arms-because tonight I'll be glued to my TV tonight. It is the first Dallas Cowboy 2009 pre-season game and Roy needs to catch a pass or two. Will quiet some of the critics. Not quite the real season--but it is close-you can hear the roar of the crowd...
In the meantime, show some shoulder. Does a body good.

Championship Sunday Part III
Super Bowl XLIII is set. Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. OK, the Steelers I can picture, but ARIZONA?? I am still so out for the peach cobbler on that one. This Cardinals were not even talked about in pre-season. Heck, not even during the regular season--unless it was the bench of Matt Leniart and his replacement of vet Kurt Warner. Nonetheless, many congrats to the winners!!
Reality now. Both teams the Dallas Cowboys played. Had Pittsburgh beat until.... As for Arizona--shoulda won that game. Wow, cool it isn't to say both Super Bowl teams beat you. I wonder if Tony Romo thinks the Super Bowl is just a sporting event. Ya know, like he said after the loss to Philadelphia, which put the Cowboys on the couch, until July-when training camp commences.
Hey, I'd admit to have a hankering for the Dallas Cowboys to sport a new Vince Lombardi trophy in the case after such an event.
I need whip cream for the peach cobbler.

Bowl Bust Part II
OK. Let me see if I got this right. Utah ranked #6 beat #4 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl--that by the way was played on January 2nd, instead of which use to be a New Year's DAY game--I digress. Yet what gets me is, Utah was and is the only undefeated Division I team, but it plays in a non-BCS bowl because our BCS buds chose "perennial powerhouses' --with losses apiece- to fight it out on the for the number one spot of all college footballdom. Dom = dumb.
I'm not slamming Oklahoma or Florida. Heck, Oklahoma coach Bobby Stoops is a Iowa Hawkeye and I'll root for them. Even tho I do believe Texas should be in the title game. Not in the Fiesta Bowl that plays January 5, which is 4 days after the traditional New Year's DAY of college football. And then there's Ball State and Tulsa, in the GMAC Bowl on the 6th. The WHAT Bowl?
What is the BCS thinking? Oh, wait--how many dollars they can collect from perennial powerhouses. Not fair on the scorecard of collge footballdom.
dom= dumb.

Bowl Bust
When did the College Football Bowl season begin to stretch into Easter? OK--I could be exaggerating (that's the writer in me and my imagination just seems to run away with me). Didn't once upon a time the bowl games tied up on New Year's Day with the best one being the last one of the day? Games overlapped each other. All before ESPN, and every sports network in between. New Year's Day was THE football day. And now? I could buy the recent change of the champeenship game the day after. But come ON, how much of a champeenship game is it anyway? I know our President elect, Barack Obama has other stuff on his plate, (this pesky economy for one, but ya know, he favors a play-off system too.
Hmm. Well, the good news is, I'm off today and plan to enjoy myself. First, I need to get a cup 'o coffee to get me runnin' and then get on with my day. Wait--is there some game on tonight? NFL? College? Or is that tomorrow? I am so confused.
Just hit me upside the head with a football. Heaven knows there's enough of em.
