Tuesday Too Hot

Dallas' temperature was 104 degrees F
I think.
Once the mercury goes over 100 does it really matter?
Already endured a few triple digit days in a row-
However, the weather folks say we should not repeat 
70 (or was it 71?) 100 degree days this year like in 2011--
Yea, check me about mid October and we'll
Know for sure.  In the meantime, here's a backyard photo

Seen in about  50 years and that was Super Bowl week 
Which was to be played here in Dallas, too.
Record snow fall. Record temps, record just about everything...
The beauty was the snow melted in just a matter of days-
Not so to say about the oven Dallas bakes in will get turned off
Any time soon. Where IS my iced coffee? 

Snow More

Got about five inches of snow in my part of Dallas today. This photo is part of my backyard. I stepped outside my back yard, with my purple flannel jammies on this morning and snapped. A cat thought he wanted to go outside. The thought didn't last long.

Snow. Dallas. It does happen. Just not much. Sure we had that 12 inch snow fall in Feb '11. It was gone in about 3 days. This week of ice and snow has been different. There has been no meltdown. We've been in the teens and 20's since Tuesday. Dallas is not this cold this long. And to top it all off..

The Super Bowl is here. This weather is not suppose to happen. Not for something this big. Last weekend it was 75 degrees all weekend. I got Starbucks frappucinos because it was so warm. Not this go round. Today more sour milk was poured more on the Super Bowl. Six people were injured when melting ice chunks fell from Cowboy Stadium's roof and tore thru a tent being set up for the game. They were workers on the tent. All went to the hospital, one is may be critical.

Tonight a concert starring Prince was on, then off, then on--and off for good. Folks had shown up at the venue not knowing. They paid at least $1500 a ticket for this charity event. The real story from the event planner couldn't fund the event to Prince was a no-show hasn't been said yet.

OK, for as far as my day. My workplace closed the office today due to the weather. I was shocked. With the ice we had earlier this week and the skeleton crew that did show up--the building did not close. This morning, I called our bad weather hot line on a lark. Heck, I was ready to get out of bed. "CLOSED".

Let's just the say my day looked so much better under my quilts and the cats snugged so my circulation was cut off.

Snow. More scheduled for Sunday.

I'm just sure Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboy who paraded and fought for the Super Bowl to come here, wished he could get a do-over...

First Feb Chill

Dallas-Ft Worth had an "Artic Blast" come thru last night. Rain first, then sleet then snow. The city, right now, rivals any sheet of ice anywhere. There are just 60 sand trucks in Dallas to work the ice. In Ft Worth--which is 30 miles to the west, used all theirs and await another shipment. On top of that, this wintry mix shows up during Super Bowl week. Our normal highs are to be 50's-60's.

I did get up to shower and get ready for work. Here in Dallas, every local TV station does extra duty to tell you about the storm and conditions. I could hear 'treacherous' just so many times. They always say to not go if you don't have to. Yea. Yea. Yea. I'm from Iowa. We just GO in snow and ice.

Well, turns out the Dallas-Ft Worth school districts closed. That NEVER happens. Some smaller districts announced closing last night. Then the City of Dallas closed. I looked at the screen more attentive. The shots were of ice covered high ways and byways. My company was open and said just be careful on our way in. I thought of the parking lot. It would be nothing less than an ice rink.

I called my boss at 6:10 AM and left a message. I wouldn't be in by my usual time, however I did plan to go in about noon. I didn't. It wasn't until 12:30 did I see a car even go down my street. As of right now--it's 9:15 PM, schools, included DFW schools are closed for tomorrow.

Am I going in on Wednesday? I plan too. We'll see how the roads are in the morning. The weather people say this is the coldest we've been in 15 years. I got cats and quilts to get me thru!

Yea, I'm from Iowa, but when the temp is below zero windchill, it doesn't matter where you live!

Sunday is Super...Indeed!

Congrats to our Super Bowl Champs: the New Orleans Saints!

They rolled down Peyton and his Indianapolis Colts 31-17 and ya gotta love it!

With all the City of New Orleans has endured and still rebuilds from Katrina--

For the Saints to win seemed to fit just right! And I'm sure former Dallas Cowboy coach staffer, and now Head Coach of the Saints, aka Sean Payton never had Gatorade taste SO good!

And Who Dat has that Lombardi Trophy???

Sunday is Super

OK--so the Dallas Cowboys aren't playing in this year's Super Bowl. However 2011's game could be considered a Home Game for da Boy and will , be played about 15 miles from me. Hey, I can put my prayer in early! As I script this, the game hasn't started yet. I decided to cheer for the Saints. After all the City of New Orleans has been thru and continues to go thru, I'd like to see the Saints hoist a Lombardi Trophy.

So, no Dallas Cowboys today, but a Dallas Cowboy is headed to Canton and the Hall of Fame:Emmitt Smith aka Dancing With the Stars Champ. The RB who broke the late, great Chicago Bear Walter 'Sweetness' Payton's all time rushing record, will join teammates Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin. These teammates were known as The Triplets.

Won three Super Bowls in the 90's. Shoulda been at least four. I admit, I'm still bitter about Jimmy Johnson's exit--although it is in the long ago past. Where did the time go? Seems like yesterday I was at Super Bowl parties to root da Boyz onto victory. I remember at one party I smoked a cigar...don't ask.

Any way, I gotta get set to watch the game. And I'll smile as I recall Triplets leading the way--and come August, they'll be together again. Congrats, Emmitt!

The Dallas Cowboys cut Terrell Owens.

I realize I may be part of the minority on this one, but my take is...

The Dallas Cowboys cut the wrong guy.

They shoulda cut Jerry Jones.

Terrell Owens wasn't my favorite player, however he did his job.

I can respect that.

Terrell Owens didn't say, like a 67 Million Dollar QB who dates a Hollywood wanna-be, that it was just a sporting event.

With Michael Irving, back in the glory days-was he a whole lot different?

So now what? Terrell Owens was not the problem on that team.

He spoke his mind. Enough media caught that speaking on tape, and tried to change our minds with it.

Jerry Jones loves this team so much, I hate what he's done with it.

Jimmy Johnson would have left eventually, yet we all shake our heads and wonder, "What if...?

Jerry Jones should make nice with Jimmy Jones and hire him as GM

In the meantime, we all will deal with how Dallas Cowboys cut the wrong guy.

Terrell, we hardly knew ye. You'll get your Lombardi Trophy--just not with the Dallas Cowboys

Championship Sunday Part III

Super Bowl XLIII is set.

Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. OK, the Steelers I can picture, but ARIZONA?? I am still so out for the peach cobbler on that one. This Cardinals were not even talked about in pre-season. Heck, not even during the regular season--unless it was the bench of Matt Leniart and his replacement of vet Kurt Warner. Nonetheless, many congrats to the winners!!

Reality now. Both teams the Dallas Cowboys played. Had Pittsburgh beat until.... As for Arizona--shoulda won that game. Wow, cool it isn't to say both Super Bowl teams beat you. I wonder if Tony Romo thinks the Super Bowl is just a sporting event. Ya know, like he said after the loss to Philadelphia, which put the Cowboys on the couch, until July-when training camp commences.

Hey, I'd admit to have a hankering for the Dallas Cowboys to sport a new Vince Lombardi trophy in the case after such an event.

I need whip cream for the peach cobbler.

Championship Sunday Part II

History tells us:

January 18, 1976 Donny and Marie debuted as the first brother and sister (teenagers at that!) duo to host their own variety show. Yep, I admit I stayed home on a Friday night long enough to watch.

January 1977 the mini-series other mini-series would be compared to, "Roots" began. My friends and I were glued to my TV. No vcr's then, so you HAD to be home.

January 18 1980 Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off of a live bat, while performing in Des Moines, Iowa. Gee, a concert I missed.

When each event happened, I still lived in Iowa. Just like Kurt Warner at the time. Big difference tho. While I was out partying and doing whatever else in the those years, fellow Iowan Kurt (born in 1971)grasped the rigors of grade school and, I'm sure, a love for the game of football.

And this why they play the game.

Instead of popcorn, I got me some peach cobbler. Will check back later after I remember how the Dallas Cowboys lost to BOTH teams...gee.

NFL Playoffs

OK--let me see if I got this right. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Arizona Cardinals (with University of Northern Iowa alum Kurt Warner) will play for the right to the Super Bowl next week. WHAT?!??! We really saw that coming when training came got started, huh?

Last year's Champs, the NY Giants lost to the Eagles today. Arizona beat the Panthers--but come on....ARIZONA?!??! Weren't they 8-8? Didn't both Philadelphia and Arizona beat my Dallas Cowboys? And where are Tony (needs to get his head back on straight), Terrell (don't cut him. He's not the problem), Jason Witten (just give him MVP or some kind of medal) and Marion Barber (I still love him) doing after they finished 9-7? Right in front to their TVs like me.

Yep. And this is why they play the game.

Donovan or Kurt? Both still got a lot of show left in em.

Sunday Super Shuffle

Another kinda windy, dreary Dallas day. Went to my home church today. I do love the pastor there: Pastor Jerome McNeil. Spoke on sins that can be washed away. You realize your transparency is your transformation. Received a terrific hug from the cougar cub, I wish were a bit older. His girlfriend better know how good she has it! There maybe a short story in there. .

Gonna try to get out and do a quick walk before it rains or turns dark or both. I've blown my diet all to bits this weekend. Somehow I think the walk justifies. Because I'm stopping to get some ice cream after. Sure, there's some in the freezer, but I want something from Marble Slab Creamery. Have you been to one? Good stuff. Hit it alot while still Iowa, yet not in recent times here. There's one not far from the house--and well...Has been asking me to stop and say "hi" and I've ignored it. Not tonight.

Other stuff on my mind: work. My house--how it needs splashes of color. Too sterile for too long. Stay tuned to see what happens over Thanksgiving!

And finally Dallas Cowboys beat up on Mike Singletary's San Francisco 49'ers today. Sports Radio will be OK to listen to for a couple days--then we have the Turkey Day Game. But I digress--it was mentioned in today's game how MIke Singletary said the players today don't really know anything about the Super Bowl Shuffle--the video the Chicago Bears made in 1985. They did win the Vince Lombadi trophy that year. So I go to You Tube and watched it for the first time in a long time. When this came out, the only place to really see it was MTV. For you young folks, that's when MTV actually had just one channel and really played music 24/7...nonetheless, to watch the late Walter "Sweetness" Payton, QB Jim McMahon and Mike Singletary (who looks the same) made me smile. Hope it makes you smile too. HUT!
