You and Friday

Now come on. Admit it. This is a relationship you really, really like.
You and Friday. I know I do.
Gotta admit tho, it went in spurts. Friday and me. Mainly because there was a time
I worked Friday Nights, while chums ran the streets, being wild and free-
As I toiled in a nursing home's kitchen fillin' jelly jars, peelin' carrots and washin' dishes.
From 10 PM to 6 AM. On a Friday. After about 8 months,
The nursing home and I 'mutually agreed' I need not come back---ever.
What did I care? I was 19. Lived at home. Sweet Big Daddy Don slid me $ when
The step-mother wasn't looking. Grand life to be had.
Plus I re-launched a great relationship with Friday--
And I liked it like that--Baby, I thought I was a star!

MIssed July 13, 1985 being Saturday

What I remember about that day is, I lived in Kansas City, yet I was back in my Iowa, visiting--imagine that. I'm sure it had to be more some guy I was nuts about....I digress.... actually I was in the apartment I had been a roomie with my hometown 5th Steet Friend. I still chuckle how we turned in pop cans (that's soda cans to some of you) so we'd have enough funds to go out. OK, I digress again. OK, the 5th Street Friend was hosting a bridal or baby shower for a co-worker of hers. I came in toward the end of the shower because (a) I thought it would be over and (b) most importantly, I wanted to catch some of Live Aid on MTV. This was before anybody could really afford VCR's and the question still was: VHS or Beta?

I made it back to catch this performance which I've showcased on the blog before. That's OK, 'cause Tina Turner can be showcased ANY time. I loved this video! Ms. Tina and Mick--and ya just wonder, how much of a State of Shock they were ever in...

Nonetheless, it's Friday in 2010 and that's all that needs to be said....

Friday Finally...

..and I got me some Tina Turner on the mind....Simply the Best!

Saturday December Day in Dallas

For my chums in Iowa and parts North, it may be 61 degrees today. Just to rub that in.

Also I have watermelon in my fridge. Not sure where it was grown. Not too tasty Summer Sweet, yet there's still some crunch and munch there. Makes me happy.

Then there's Tom Jones. Yes, 68 year old "What's New Pussycat?" Tom Jones. I got around to watching his performance on Leno from the other night. I read the rave review of his new CD '24 Hours' last week. My thought, "Really?" My memory of Tom Jones is my mom, aunts and other females in her demograpic, camped out around the TV when his variety show came on. Hooped and hollered they did.

Then fast forward: 1975 and the Great Allentown Fair, in Allentown, PA. Tom Jones performed there, as were the Osmonds, later on that week. Females, including myself, were lined from the elevator door to the car that waited for him, outside the Sheraton. We all wanted to get a glimpse of him. My 17 yr old lips got glimpsed 4 times. Then sometime in the 80's, Tom held concert in Des Moines, Iowa. He was good, yet...there was just something not that filled with zip. Honestly, I kind of wrote him off. His time had passed--that sort of thing.

Well, then 2008 and I watch Leno. My mouth drops. "THAT's Tom Jones???! I've determined Tom Jones drinks from the same fountain as Tina Turner. The song is "I'm Alive." Tom Jones proves he is. And, now if you will excuse me, I need to go and buy me a CD--one that's not on the clearance rack at Wal-mart. I got some hoopin' and hollerin' to do.

Sunday Standard...

Not a fan of Standard Time. It seems to be dark by noon. Exaggeration--sure. Yet I will need to make sure I'm up and done with my walk before nightfall. Jaunted around the Park up the street before the Dallas-NY Football Giants game.

Now I sit here after the Dallas-NY Football Giants game, with the sting of loss 35-14. Not good. At least the 3rd string QB came and added some zip. Just ick. I know this is why they play the game--but I'd like to have victories to talk about after they play the game. Not good.

What was good: the sermon I heard today. Visited Friendship West Baptist Church with Rev Freddy Haynes. He's a blunt, kinda get to the point kinda guy. I did like that. He preached how folks will judge you: they will categorize you then ostracize you, and stigmatize you to demonize you. As long as you have the peace of Jesus in you, folks can try their best, yet you are not phased. After service, I told Rev Haynes how that hit me, all around the block.

What also was good--that we just have two more days in this election. I know how I want it to end, but whether Barack Obama or John McCain wins, --I can't complain, because I voted. Did you early vote or will you be there Tuesday? Also the day God made today, was good--and no more earthquakes here. Heck, I slept through em on Friday and Saturday morning.

One week ago, TINA TURNER was in concert. I sat so in the nosebleed section, but I didn't care. A week all ready. This woman IS the Fountain of Youth. If Ms. Tina can't inspire you--nothing can. So to end this Sunday and get over my sorrow for the Cowboys loss--I gotta start out slow and easy...cue up the band, Tina's back in the house-cuz we gotta end this day rough...

Tuesday Results....

Yes, Ms. Tina did Dallas two nights ago. I am still in awe. This woman will be 69 next week and still with the BEST legs on either side of the Atlantic. Don't you think Ike cussed his way all the way to the grave? To watch Ms. Tina is such an inspiration. I mean, come ON, the grandma filled the American Airlines Centers, as the review said, "just hair short of sold out"--while Janet Jackson, just a few short days earlier had curtains in front of the non-sold seats. All young performers of today, take a listen, do you like what you see? Will folks want to see you when you're 69?

Got in a walk tonight. Had to. Just sat all day at work--at least I did produce. Made it to the park up the street. Had to rush because it so close to nightfall. Pet a dog named Coco along the way. I couldn't imagine just to sit in front of the TV after I sat ALL day in front of the PC at work. Walked. Had to. Prayed. Had to. I didn't care who heard. My conversation with Him.

So home. Nuked some veggies (this diet after all) and have the DWTS result show on. Please...PLEASE...let it be Cloris--even tho she is a legend.....

And now one last video from Best...This was from Los Angeles a week or so ago. I'm going to e-mail this guy to say THANK YOU!

Sunday Short Stuff

The Cowboys-Bucs game was NOT pretty. Downright ugly. Yet, they won. The world will continue to spin. The sun will come up tomorrow.

The guest preacher today said "Press On"--do what God has planned for you. Philippians 3:12 was his text today. Good stuff that I needed to hear.

But right now, look at the time---I need to get wolf down a quick sandwich and head out the door-because tonight is TINA TURNER! Granted, I may have a better seat in my house, but it is TINA! This is about the sixth or so concert I've been of hers. LOVE her!!

Now, 'cuse me, gotta set the DVR, feed the cats, cuz I gotta get to gettin to witness Simply the Best...TINA!

Finally Friday--It Better Be Good

Oh wow! What a week that has been had. We have the Dull Presidential Debate to Mrs. John McCain's announcement Barack Obama has slung the smear fest of all presidential campaigns. Hmm. Me thinks she and husband John McCain need to look in the mirror--then to the non-hallelujahs days at work-then to stepping on the doctor's scale and nearly have a stroke because their scale has SO more of my pounds than my bathroom scale--to being broke-to the wish I had a steady man to take out the trash-to the desire of my written words published-to relish in the purr of a cat-to the realization I have my own home, my health, great friends and that this history making presidential election will finally be over in three weeks--and above all that God watches me and He's made sure it's all ready done.

So on this Friday with the weekend at our fingertips, cue Ms. Tina Turner tellin' us all We Better Be Good...

Tina Turner Does Dallas in October!

This woman-oh, wow-this woman who will be 70--SEVENTY--and show the young ones--male and female, how it should be done. Tickets go on sale Sept 15 for the October 26 Dallas show. Gotta see Tina Turner. This woman can sit in a rockin' chair with her feet up and I would not care! First saw her when she opened up for Lionel Richie. Decided Ms. Tina wasn't on stage long enough. Then came her own Private Dancer tour. I've seen several concerts since, yet that first solo concert--just Ms. Tina and the band on stage-nothing fancy. No theatrics. Just raw and ELECTRIC.

This video is from Live Aid 1985 and one of my favorites. I watched it live on that warm July afternoon, those twenty three years ago. Before TiVo--so couldn't pause. Just to experience the energy that pours from Ms. Tina and immortal Mick-just one more time.

How many piggy banks will need to be busted to afford the tickets? Don't care. Gotta be in one of those seats!

Tina Turner---this woman gives AAPR a whole 'nother meaning!

The Chevy HHR SisterHood

Sat at a stop sign. Coulda made it. Plenty of time.

However, I chose to wait for a Sunburst Orange Metallic Chevy HHR to cross my path. It was if my car’s twin sauntered toward me. I smiled.

OK-yea, sure-I thought this car was something the Munters would own or The Addams Family would present to Cousin It. Those thoughts were SO last week! This car belongs to me (and the bank!)

Did some research. Chevy modeled the car after their ’49 Suburban and the SSR (Super Sport Roadster). Found out the HHR, in HHR, stands for Heritage High Roof-not something cool like: Highway Huggin’ Roadster.

The Sunburst Orange Metallic Chevy HHR inched closer. My smiled widened. My window was down to catch an uncommon cool Dallas Summer breeze. Plus from the CD, Tina Turner was asking me What's Love Got to Do With It? I knew the other driver saw me wait, watch and smile. Sure enough, a woman was behind the well. We both waved.

Yep, Love has alot to do with it.
Indeed, part of a SisterHood.

Sure, the Stones still give us Satisfaction---yet, Tina. Yes, I have a woman-crush on her. Won't deny. Tina on Tour at 68--gives senior citizen a whole different meaning. Looks good at ANY age!

I hope this comes out! It's should be Tina Turner and Mick Jagger, during Live Aid back in July 1985. I recall watching it the first time! To me--Tina is timeless. Mick still has it going on. During the Private Dancer era, Tina just stood/danced on stage with her band--that was THE best. I hope I look THAT good in my 60's....ROCK On!
