Just a Few

On a gorgeous Saturday, as I toiled with school work, these kitties kept me company. They perched by my PC monitor. You can tell one of em is kind of a wide load! :) His purr is as big as his hind side!

Anyway, once the school work was done, I headed out to enjoy the day. Splendid, spectacular day!

On of my stops was at a theatre to see Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married Too?" Parts of it were quite good, because I saw improvement in Tyler's writing and direction. And I marvel at Janet Jackson. She whispers so when interviewed, like on Leno and Oprah, for instance--yet in this...something so different. Janet has mentioned this movie was being filmed around her brother Michael's death. I feel that you will feel her pain...I did.

I admire Tyler for all he puts into his movies, however there are times I wish he'd let somebody else direct and/or co-write the script, then Tyler could concentrate on his own acting. Just a thought. Oh, and I will say--at one point I had a big ol' smile on my face. If you go see "Why Did I Get Married Too" I bet you'll know when it was, because it just rocked me over. As did everybody in the theatre.

Chill in the Air

Texas Longhorns lose. I am so heartsick for those kids, especially Colt McCoy. We'll never know how the game could have gone. And the poor true freshman back up QB, Gilbert. I wonder if he still wants to play football after the Championship Game. I'm not a deep Texas fan, yet I did root for them last night. Oh, and evidently Pastor Rickie Rush, of Inspiring Body of Christ Church, walked with injured Colt McCoy up the ramp. I didn't see this and yet to find footage of it. Doesn't surprise me, tho. Saw a nice spot of Colt talking for "I Am Second." Outside of all that, it's sad Texas lost the way they did.

Jay Leno. What's this bout him moving back to late night? Would someone please tell me again why NBC fired Jay in the first place? Pulled in solid numbers. Plus didn't Jay continue to beat out Letterman? I enjoyed Jay's monologues more than Dave's, yet I enjoyed Dave more when he interviewed folks--especially political ones. Yet, I laughed more with Jay. And Conan. Not a big fan, although I think he does need to head to Fox or somewhere and do his thing. NBC put themselves in this mess. It will be messier to get out.

Friday. Not a whole lot more to be said. It's cold. And I'm headed to my blankees. I may just stay there all tomorrow--just to be set for Round 3 of the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game Saturday night.

American Idol & Oscar

Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson are both nominated for Oscar

in Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Both have appeared recently on The Tonight Show. Jay Leno seemed eager to meet them both. I was also eager to see them both. Hmm. After both interviews, I wondered if Jay wondered why he was so eager in the first place. I know I was. Before get all hatin' on me--sure, they both could have been nervous. Afterall, it was The Tonight Show, how could you NOT be nerovus?

However....for me, Ms. Henson ran the conversation and not let Jay talk much. While Ms. Davis told us how she didn't like to see the 'boogers' come out of her nose on screen and didn't much answer how it was to work with Meryl Streep. My thing is, you're being introduced to millions of folks, who may have see your work or they have and want to see how you conduct yourself. And if they don't like what they see, they're not going to buy a ticket. The audience didn't sit in stun silence, yet I believe didn't laugh as thought they might on the 'booger' comment. I'm curious who coached the women for their The Tonight Show interviews? Anybody? Wasn't impressed with either one. Sad, really, because I like what I've seen of their acting chops.

If either Ms. Henson or Ms. Davis win, I pray their acceptance speech redeems. A little humility perhaps.

American Idol. We know the Final 36. Got my favorites. The Welder and the Oil Rig Guy are right now my # 1 Billboard Chart Faves, then a couple other guys I like too--so we'll see. As for my not-so Must See--Nick/Norman and Tatiana. When Nick actually sang for about a minute, he wasn't bad. Tatiana....oh my. American Idol gets real next week--so more will follow then.

Saturday December Day in Dallas

For my chums in Iowa and parts North, it may be 61 degrees today. Just to rub that in.

Also I have watermelon in my fridge. Not sure where it was grown. Not too tasty Summer Sweet, yet there's still some crunch and munch there. Makes me happy.

Then there's Tom Jones. Yes, 68 year old "What's New Pussycat?" Tom Jones. I got around to watching his performance on Leno from the other night. I read the rave review of his new CD '24 Hours' last week. My thought, "Really?" My memory of Tom Jones is my mom, aunts and other females in her demograpic, camped out around the TV when his variety show came on. Hooped and hollered they did.

Then fast forward: 1975 and the Great Allentown Fair, in Allentown, PA. Tom Jones performed there, as were the Osmonds, later on that week. Females, including myself, were lined from the elevator door to the car that waited for him, outside the Sheraton. We all wanted to get a glimpse of him. My 17 yr old lips got glimpsed 4 times. Then sometime in the 80's, Tom held concert in Des Moines, Iowa. He was good, yet...there was just something not that filled with zip. Honestly, I kind of wrote him off. His time had passed--that sort of thing.

Well, then 2008 and I watch Leno. My mouth drops. "THAT's Tom Jones???! I've determined Tom Jones drinks from the same fountain as Tina Turner. The song is "I'm Alive." Tom Jones proves he is. And, now if you will excuse me, I need to go and buy me a CD--one that's not on the clearance rack at Wal-mart. I got some hoopin' and hollerin' to do.

Monday Moment

Took a break from the book I'm reading for the Book Club I host Saturday. Yea, knew about it since before Christmas--and just now reading it. Lots of description of the character and the town's surroundings. Eager to find out how it ends. Just hope I don't find out how it ends about five minutes before I head to the Book Club Chat Saturday. The book? "The Hand I Fan With' by Tina Mcelroy Ansa.

So no more Leno after May 2009. He's been an aquired taste for me--yet I enjoy when he talks to people in the "Jay Walking" segment. I didn't give him much hope taking over for Johnny. He proved me wrong. And besides, he's got a cat.

"Dark Knight" made over $155 million dollars its opening weekend. The curiousity of Heath Ledger--I'll be honest, got me in the seat, quicker than I may have gone. I'm so glad the movie surpassed my expectiations. Heath was so into The Joker. This was THE breakout role for him. Sad.

Grey's Anatomy: More so the character Lizzie or more so the actress Katherin Heigl. She's attractive and talented, yet Lizzie is my next to last favorite character on Grey's. The character of Meredith Grey being my least favorite. As for the actress, Ms. Heigl, herself, I missed the memo on what makes her so special...Sorry.

And yes, I saw "Knocked Up." Gotta tell ya, James Pickens Jr has my heart--all of it--on that show!

Better get back to the book. Wait--chips, salsa and purring cat need to happen first.
