Search on Saturday

Trekked into Best Buy today. Really thought I was smart enough to go in there.

I wasn't.

First I looked for a particular movie. They didn't have much of a selection of anything. Yea, OK, it could have been that Best Buy. Of course, a sign was there saying they could order it. I decided when I get home I'll check on Amazon.

I go look at laptops. I really, really want one. I looked at prices. Why was one more expensive than the other? Shouldn't they just be pretty? Did it slice onions while it burns a DVD for you? Nobody asked me if I wanted help.

I'm glad.

Then I looked at cameras. I need a better one. I couldn't understand why one camera was 20 bucks cheaper than another, when they looked to have the same stuff. And the same brand. I shoo'd away the guy born in 1992 away. He did ask if I wanted help.

I didn't.

Last stop was phones. Yea, I'm thinkin I'm ready to take the plunge and get rid of my home phone. Just go cell. Yet, I looked at an iPhone. Why is it 199 bucks? Does it batter and deep fry the onions the laptop sliced for you? What is the difference between that and an Android? These two guys were looking at phones. One of em said he really like his Android. He was starting to get all techny and I had to exit. I had a flashback my BFF in grade school and me trying to talk on our home phones. However the ladies on the 'party line' our parents had, wouldn't get off. This cute young Denzel Washington look-a-like asked if I needed helped.

I hesitated--he was cute--yet I told him I didn't.

So as I trekked from Best Buy, I looked at the free buyer's guide in my hand.

Next time I go in--I will be smarter

And I'll have onions on my breath.

Toast of Tuesday

That's what my Blue Bell Peaches and Homemade Ice Cream will be--

Just a smidge of an update. Yesterday, I wrote about how Bear's, my ex, Facebook page said he was married. Then by the time I came home last night Bear's page was gone. There's also been no response to my text. of congrats. I am still kinda sorta surprise I've heard nothing, yet I'm kinda sorta not. I just hope Bear's happy.

Ya know, in recent times, two relationships meant alot to me. Bear and Movie Man, another I'd posted about. They were/are two totally different men yet more alike than I realized. If there was way to merge em together, I'd have the most perfect man--well, except Bear hated cats and Movie Man liked them, but was allergic. So the 'perfect man' would need to like cats and take allergy pills or shots--

I digress.

These two knew of each other. Bear and Movie Man even met. We all laughed and it was a fun moment in time. We even tried to start our own writers' group--which just lasted one time. I still have the papers they wrote that one and only time. They may have been jealous of each other in a dizzy kind of way. Bear and Movie Man both knew what one man gave me, the other man wouldn't or couldn't.

The main thing is I loved them both. And now both are out of my life. For awhile, actually. When enough was enough of me being mad at myself (not them) for my actions, I realized it was time to close the chapter. If we should ever cross paths again, we'd have our past and it's OK to visit--I just can't stay there. We would basically start all over to know each other now. And realize it all can't be like before. I would get made at myself all over again...

My smidge became more of a smudge.

Oh well.

Blue Bell Peaches and Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream makes a smidge, smudge smile-

So 'cuse me, my bowl awaits to runneth over!

Christmas Day Still

Made it church this morning. A bit late, due to the still slick spots on highways and byways of Dallas. Passed a ravine with 6 cars resting it, plus a wreck with 3 cars, not including the police car and an ambulance passed me. Oh, and there was the pick-up that got caught on my ice and tried to slide into my lane. Got back in control tho. All in all, Pastor Rickie Rush, of Inspiring Body of Christ Church, held the 10am service at 10:45, just to give folks more time to get there. My usual 20 minute or so drive, took me about 45, so I was grateful. Pastor Rush didn't keep us long because he said folks wanted to get on with their own celebrations. I can admire him for that.

Pastor Rush said there were people there, who needed explanation why their Christmases and other parts of life are what they are and not what they want (which is like me.). Pastor Rush used John 14:6. All things must go thru Jesus. And maybe where you're at now is where you need to be before you get to the place He has for you. He gave you a gift. And to learn how to use that gift for His Glory needs to some attention. Made me ponder.

I also followed my Christmas Tradition of going to a movie. This year: "It's Complicated" with Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Just have to love those three. What can Meryl NOT do? Can Alec be anymore smarmy, yet lovable? And Steve--just wanted to take him home for chocolate croissants. Sure, there were some parts made the movie longer than it shoulda been, although I still believe "It's Complicated" is in the "It's Marvelous" category! Loved to see a movie with my demographic in the lead and not so Lifetime Movie where somebody dies. I give it three and a half croissants, plus a cup of coffee.

I later sat on park bench swing, feed ducks--some greedy ones took the bread right from my hand, swung back and forth, and pondered a time of year, I still so good about--Even tho I wish some things were different. I remember all this is temporary and 2010 is 'round the corner. New adventures do await and that excites me! He's brought me so far, in situations I never thought I'd ever have listed on my life's resume and He has yet to leave me.

In the meantime, it is Christmas Day Still and more I need to enjoy.

Merry Christmas and You are blessed.

It Happens

I cried at a movie. No, not any boo-hoo, soak up a box of tissues over 'Love Story" sob or even the misty colored water memory cry when Barbra says good-bye to Robert at the end of "The Way We Were." Nope. I got weepy at Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" today.

Yea, I'm shocked too. As much as I admire Tyler, I mean for a time, the guy lived out of his car-yet, I wish he'd edit his movies just a little bit more. Try to have so many people in the story, so you really don't know the characters, and then try more to tie it all together. Their was a difference with this movie. Tighter. Better acting, especially the kids, with a pretty good story. Madea showed up for comic relief. And Madea was funny, however, in my opinion-Tyler didn't need her. I thought the same thing in "Madea Goes To Jail." That particular movie had two good stories. but they weren't blended very well. I wanted to know about the hooker with a heart of gold (once up on time Rudy Huxtable) than Madea in the slammer. That's just my bag of popcorn opinion.

And "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" was a alot better, yet...All in all, I sniffed, wiped my eyes, smiled and nodded my head in agreement. This is the first time any of Tyler's work got me to do all that.

Goes to prove, it happens.

Finally Friday

Rain pours from the sky. Could go catch enough rain to make my daily 74 ounces of water intake. :) Even with the rain, it's still muggy. And still August. And still Summer.

So on this Friday, I just felt like doing a smile or twelve when I think back to the August 1978. Way before DVR's, mortgages, and where cable was about HBO and that's it. That August I spent alot of the time at the moving picture show. For one movie, and really one movie only.

"Grease" was and still is the word.

Cue up Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta and Jeff Conway. In the time Before.

So On

Gotta admit, I considered going to see Star Trek --AGAIN- today. Yep, I loved it THAT much. Got to think the last movie, I saw multiple times in the theatre was The Lion King and before that, Jurassic Park. Both were viewed about 7 (each) times, with popcorn in hand. Hmm. Just remembered I saw Titantic 4 times in theaters. Since it was 3 hours long--almost the same amount of time as for the 7 times...I think. Don't have my abacus handy. Anyway, I didn't do a moving picture show, instead headed for luncheon for Motherless Daughters. Maybe next weekend. Let it all simmer a bit. Oh wait, did I tell you the storyline of Lt. Uhura I really liked? I did smile through out--LOVED IT. I've not gushed about a movie this much and/or this bad in years! I do have one gripe--with the prospect of alternate universes why couldn't Captain Kirk be in it?

Nonetheless, Go see Star Trek! Gene Roddenberry would be proud!

I've decided I love Zachary Quinto just a hair more than Chris Pine
Must be the pointy ear thing--well, at least for today!

Live long and prosper!

Just To Know

Me and Movie Man on his last day. I realize I either bust the camera (It's mine) or shoot the co-worker who took it--maybe both. So filled with grain and peach fuzz. Guess we'll just need to take another one. Movie Man, I'm sure, just rolled his peepers. Just to know him as I do.

Movie Man left today. It won't really hit me until Tuesday--after we speak Monday night how his first day went at Movie Man's new job. How it went for me as he wasn't at his old job. Will sink in --kinda like the Titanic-when I don't feel Movie Man's shoulder squeeze as he paces by. Like he did as he exited today at Stage I M Gone For Good. Just to know.

The day wound up being more emotional for Movie Man than he realized. The good bye from the comfortable to the hello of the unknown. Tonight, as I ate a salad which nearly cost a second mortgage (I love you Celebrity Bakery--however after tonight I will stay with just the bakery part--I digress) tried to reassure Movie Man he's doing the right thing. He tried to reassure me it's my time to finally fly. All my kids have flown from the nest. Just to know me as he does.

Our friendship has been the most different and most in-depth I've experienced, in a very long time. Some scenarios were not too pretty. Folks at work knew when we fought. While other scenarios we even surprised ourselves. Movie Man is the little brother I never had or ever really wanted. Both of us spoiled only children. Stubborn.

I realized tonight, I remind Movie Man too much how he was born three months after I graduated from high school. He's taught me everything movie box office since about 1979. And just shakes his head when I can't remember the first movie we saw together. I just remembered it took about six months to get him to agree to even have a first movie together.

This movie is far from finished. Pop more corn and hold the credits.

Just to know: I am blessed.

History Past

A relationship and Richard Nixon. What do they have in common? Both have passed. One I want to know about. The other...not to so much.

First Richard Nixon. I was in high school when he resigned. On that August day, I watched President Nixon announce his resignation and to leave office the following afternoon. I knew it was history, yet I had too many other things to do. When Richard Nixon and David Frost conducted their infamous interviews in 1977, I didn't watch. Once again, just too much else too do. Well, today, I saw Frost/Nixon, Opie Taylor--er--Ron's Howard's newest Oscar worthy work. When I watch those old Andy Griffith, especially, that first season, I marvel what Little Ronny grew up to be. Anyway, Frost/Nixon had me asking myself, "Is this what happened?" All I remember of David Frost was dating Diahann Carroll and I wondered what she saw in him. Not so handsome in my eye. This movie piqued my interest in a piece of history long past. I'd like to see these interviews myself--just to see. Just to know.
And Frank Langella--heck, I can see what Whoopi Goldberg saw in him! :)

The second thing; A relationship. Ahh. Not much to say there. I mentioned the guy in a previous entry. He's since said I crossed the line and disrespected him. How? By talking about him to his pastor for a few minutes. The conversation totalled five minutes--if that--during two separate occasions. I looked for some guidance from someone that knew the guy and somebody we both respected. To a degree, I do see the guy's point--being angry. Especially if he felt I went behind his back. If anything I am sorry he's upset, yet I still have no regrets I spoke to his pastor. I'd tired of words being said and no actions being done-that's if there was conversation at all. Oh well. I look at the fact, I didn't blow my gasket to this guy, or cry in the comfort of my room or even anything really. His choice. Gee, to quote a movie, maybe he's just not into me. Big deal There are so many other things I need to do.

History Past.

Monday Night and I Ain't Got Nobody...

No "Dancing With the Stars."

Will have withdrawl symptoms for a bit.

I can hear Movie Man say, "Well, with more time on your hands you can finally finish Harry Potter 6 before the movie next Summer. Unlike what you did for Harry Potter 5. Or you do have all those dozens of books you buy when Half Price has its 20% off sale off its all ready half price! Ya know, the ones in the basket- I carry for you and bust my arm?"

Then my writers' group members would say "Gee, as a writer you know you must make time to write. Its not going to come to you. So with that extra hour and half or so, you could tweak that story you promised us a couple meetings ago. And plus, submit more so others can read your words. Make the time, Writer. Honor your own words, that's what you tell us."

Why yes, I could do all of that. Just not tonight.
I've put the trash out (one of those I wish I had a man things). Cleaned litter boxes, looked at the sinkful of dishes. Fed the birds and squirrels. Let Perry roll around on the patio, then caught him before he ran around the house. Went to the store to get a 9 inch paint roller thingy. Looked at my mop and wondered if I still knew how it worked. Jimmied with the chimney floo thingy to see if I felt confident tonight to build another fire and not burn the house down. I don't.

Plus there's still one last piece of pun'kin pie that needs to be savored as I rewind the first announcement of "American Idol" to start back up in January.

Yep--got that extra hour and half or so will come in handy.

Saturday Dance in the Rain

Saw Tyler Perry’s new movie, “The Family That Preys” this morning. Enjoyed it, yet I think less could be more on the amount of characters involved. What happens is, I want to see MORE of those characters’ stories! Nonetheless, I gotta give Tyler kudos. Again the Hollywood Powers will watch all that money pile up –again—wishing it was theirs-again! They will ponder how Tyler landed two award winning A-List actors: Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates. How much more cred does Tyler need? He’s an inspiration to me—the story Tyler went through to get where he is today. My oh my. The message of The Family That Preys,” in my opinion, makes up for any short comings. And Tyler, your movie makes me hope to dance.

Thoughts of Past Loves

The Holidays are pretty much right here. Yep.  Especially since three Christmas movies, in the last three days, between Lifetime and Ha...
