Here it is-my blog's 801st post. This kitty's eyes are wide and curious for what I may say. Me too.
Today I used up a vacation day and went out to work anyway. It was our Secret Santa day which was planned after I chose this day to be off. It was fun we laughed alot. And I was glad I went for that 90 mins or so. My Secret Santa gave me a gift card good at 4 eateries I frequent-so good!
After that headed off to my real lunch with another chum. We munched bar-b-q. While we wiped the bar-b-q sauce off our mouths, my chum says it seems how I always have a day off. He asks, "Do you have a day off for every other half day you work?'" Witty my chum thought he was.
I replied how I would poke his eye out with my fork.
That's what friends are for, right? Profound indeed for 801st!
Me and Barry Manilow. Yep. Still carrying on a thing with his older stuff and poofy hair. Barry doesn't know it tho. Just having a time remembering how much Barry's music stayed with me.
Especially the people I associate with the music. Honestly, I rarely listen to lyrics. Friends have called me me on the carpet because I don't. I lack heart I've been told. Naw. I'm the most hopeless romantic sap you'll ever know. I'd give you a card just because it's Tuesday.
I digress.
A song has just gotta hit me just right to get all into it. And yes, Barry Manilow is one of those singers with words got to me. Just like this song "Somewhere Down The Road." And back in the day, whenever this song came on contacts floated out of my eyes because the river of tears. Yes, they did. A lot.
This song was during my second stint in Kansas City. Attended a travel school which flew away with my money. That's whole another post. Anyway, I'd make almost weekly jaunts back to Des Moines, about 200 miles away. Not so much to see the family, even tho I got descent meals, but to see chums.
This was mid 80's, and well....I had places to go, people to see--one in particular. I liked him. He liked me. In fact we're friendly to this day. Chums on Facebook even. Never joined at the hip, yet joined in occasional lip locks. This was the 80's. Even now, I just smiled about him.
The first line of this song just sums it all up: We had the right love and the wrong time.
So sweet and nice while it lasted.
Barry Manilow--what kind of pie do you like? I owe YOU!
Remember how easy it was to make friends in grade school? A chocolate chip cookie and BFF's for life--or until at least recess. As I've gotten older and continue to ignore everything AARP 'invites' me to, makin' friends seems harder.
What do you think?
Maybe it's all the stuff we've experienced to get us to this point. In the deepest part of the valley to the highest tip of the mountaintop--if we're gonna be friends let's just FF and get on with it. For me, to discover your favorite food, movie, color etc, can be fun--yet not as much fun as when I was 15.
Does my impatience show? Friends are important to me. They truly are. Wish I could just recycle or clone the ones I've had for years so I wouldn't have to worry about makin' new ones. Since I'm an only child I can be picky. More so now, I'm older. I am loyal. Yet you tick me off once---well, we'll have to review your application.
OK. That's wrong of me, isn't it? Yea it is. I really need to embrace makin' brand new friends. There are those I know who will be roses in my garden. I know that. I really do. I just really want the friendship thing to just get on it---hence my impatience. Times were easier when it was all about a chocolate chip cookie.
Tuesday for ya. Hot here in Dallas. Around 98 or so with heat index of 104. However all is well. A/C cranks out the cool air. Taking a break from school. Well, for a night anyway.
A new class, started today--and I don't have to do anything in it, until tomorrow. So a break is needed. Oh the last class, which ended yesterday, couldn't end soon enough. I will get my lowest grade in that class. With no PC, no camaraderie within our Team projects, my not turning in some projects--even tho I enjoyed the subject matter, the situation stunk. I counted down seconds to the five weeks' end. So a new class. A new vigor. I want my "A" back. Stay tuned.
Seems like alot has happened. I am so glad I headed to Iowa. Granted, when I was about 10 miles away from my hometown, my chum Deb was on the phone telling me the turn out wasn't like they thought--GREAT. All in all it didn't matter--I had a BLAST. I think I told you, I had lunch with a classmate, here in Dallas, last week, didn't I?
We knew each other in high school, yet not close buds or anything. We had a nice chat at the Reunion. And he lives about 20 minutes from me. What was neat for me, and maybe him too, was being able to chat with somebody who knew you 'before'--From high school, anyway and able to talk about today and tomorrow. I love the chums I've made in Dallas, although there's something to be said to chat with someone who recalls a little past moment in time--just like you do--just "before."
My KC Chum commented on yesterday's post how 30 years ago we just danced the night away and forget the whole exercise thing.
Ahh, so true. The dance in the disco WAS the exercise. Trip the light fantastic to the eight minute plus "We Are Family" or try to out Travolta John Travolta. When said dance was done, take a breather for minute or two, sip the adult beverage of choice and back to the lit dance floor for more.
Yep. When going out at 10pm was just right and to get home at 4am was right on time. Because you'd get a couple hours of sleep before heading into work. Good stuff.
So since my KC Chum conjured up sweet memories and I watched John Travolta on Letterman last night--I thought why not a little Saturday Night Fever on a Wednesday?
I mean, who cares if my going out at 10pm has been replaced with the fight between my heavy eyelids and me to last at least to 10:15pm of the 10pm News.
No matter. All is good. Cue up alittle Travolta and dance.
Got out of work early (a BIG thumbs up on that!) We all had to skip lunch to be able to leave early. So needless to say I was starved when I exited. Wound up doing lunch with a chum, who just moved back to Dallas. Upon return to Dallas, she actually worked at the same place I did.
After 10 days my chum quit.
It was the right decision. Anyway, we chatted for about 3 hours. Long overdue. And alot of fun. When I left work, I'd pondered going to a movie--but heck, you can always do that. So to lunch I went. Made me realize I'd missed our get togethers, plus time has flown. Her daughter just turned 20.
* sigh*
So, on this Friday after the yummy burger I munched and dee-lish onions--which I gotta admit weren't at the best burger place in Dallas: Burger Island-and quite tasty on the tummy--gotta go tread and bike.
The scale didn't scream as much this morning. I can tell some inches have slid on off. Gotta like that.
If you will excuse me, gotta get the tennyrunners on and go do my thing.
