Three thirsts on my mind.
First, looks like my lawn will get a good drink tonight. Clouds darken. It's a cool 85 degrees, plus I watered my own insides with my daily 74 ounces o' water. Stood full throttle on the scale this morning. Smiled because the number was alittle smaller. Now, I've not dropped all this weight. Nope, I'm honest, I've been quite lax in my exercise routine. So things haven't happened as quick as I'd like. I have cut out candy--notany peanut M & Ms is tough. Hmm. I may need to go back to what I did before--just munch a couple from a bag. Just to get a taste. That's how I weaned myself from taking on an entire pint of Blue Bell--which is the best ice cream in the land. Well, maybe in the south anyway. I still savor my Blue Bell--just not as much of it. There are some things I am NOT going without!
Another thirst is health reform. Since I've had this pesky little open heart surgery and must take a daily dose of coumadin, my health has taken on a whole new meaning, especially too, because I want my own business. I listened to President Barack Obama last night. I liked what he said. What bothers me is all the junk others are saying. Ya know my deal is, none of us know HOW this thing is gonna work. You can throw charts, grafts, labels of socialism and the cow jumped over the moon, yet NOBODY really knows how it will fare. What I like, somebody IS trying to do something about it. Stay tuned.
And my last thirst? The guilty pleasure of watching "Ruby and the Rockits" on ABCFamily Channel. The show itself--yea, well--I'm not 13, until I David Cassid pops on the screen OK--the guy will be be 60 on April 12. I can still see that 70's Keith Partridge shag he had. I do wish David were in the show more. Alas, it's not all about David, but Ruby. *sigh* Yes, his brother Patrick is attractive and looks so much like his mom, Shirley Jones--who appears next week shows up to meet the granddaughter she didn't know she had. My DVR will be ready! :)
To wrap all this up, it's Thursday and still summer, so cue up a 70's David Cassidy to remind us about Summer Days. And after that? A few spoonfuls of Blue Bell Strawberry Cheesecake beckon me as I watch a bit of the first game of the NFL season--just to tie me over until the REAL game on Sunday: Dallas and Tampa Bay...Thirst ON!

To Drift
Magnificent Dallas! Sun, just a bit of breeze, yet not too hot, not to cool. This is when I love Dallas. And love it more since the afternoon is not spent at work. Took a half day of vacation. Just so nice.
I like being home during the day--OK--who doesn't? Yet, I recall through my recuperation from open-heart surgery, I dreamt of a job at home. One that would sustain me and what feels like the neighborhood of cats who live with me (they still need get a job!). I liked the feel of doing what I needed to get done. The cluttered comfort of my own home. I called the shots. That feeling was in 2006.
Still strong on this day in 2009.
As I drove home from work to get changed, chow some lunch and get on with the rest of the day, a 70's classic song burst forth from the radio. Got me to smile. Got me to nod to the beat. Got me to dream about the things that are still possible.
Got me to want to cue up Dobie Gray. See, he's gonna tell us to free our soul, get lost in some rock n' roll and Drift Away.
Listen.

To the 70's

Wore this dress to work the other day. While Movie Man and I stood in a hallway, this Young Lady, with a need-sunglasses-for-her smile-approached. Our chat went a little like this:
Young Lady: I just love your dress!
Young Lady: I just love your dress!
Me: Thank you.
Movie Man: Stood in silence
Young Lady: Yea, you look so 70’s! So vibrant! I love it! (Her smiled widened. Sunblock anyone?)
Me: Well, my goodness, I never thought that. So thank you again!
Movie Man:
Young Lady: I bet the 70’s were fun! I wish I’d been there.
Me: Well, I kind of was.
Movie Man: Oh yea, she WAS there.
Young Lady: I guess I was there, too. Just don’t remember them.
Me: I do remember the 70’s, it’s the 80’s that are a little fuzzy….
Movie Man: Stood in silence, yet smirked
Young Lady: You were there? WOW!
Me: Stood in silence and nodded
Movie Man: Yea, she knows the 70’s quite well. (His smirk covers his face)
Young Lady: Tell me, did you have fun then? I just bet it was the best! Was it?
Me: (my own smile grew) I had a ball!
Movie Man: Yes, yes, I bet you did. (a touch of sarcasm)
Young Lady: I thought so. (Her eyes have a far off 8-track and 10 cent stamps yester-decade look)
Me: OK, so what year, in the 70’s, were you born?
Young Lady: 1975
Me:
Movie Man: (laughs) Hmm, she’s older than me.
Young Lady: Well, I need to go. Y’all have a great day. (Her smile blinds the room)
As she saunters away, I look at Movie Man. His smile almost rivals hers.
Movie Man: So, what were you doing when she was born? (He waits. His eyes sparkle with mischief. He knows me too well).
Me: (Paused to ponder). In 1975, I went to a party. Got drunk for the first time. Passed out in bed of a pick-up truck. Been at the party for a half hour.
The 70’s—a memory that can’t be duplicated--not sure I want them too. :)

It's The Weekend Again....
....so glad of that!
I had my first Snickers Blizzard, in I don't know how long. When did the small size become SO small? Still pretty tasty!
Tomorrow, another round of racquetball with Movie Man. By the way, he saw the new Batman movie: "Dark Knight" and loved it. Movie Man drinks, eats, and freezes anything about film. He thinks Oscar contention. WOW. With his 'thumbs up'---I'll go this weekend.
Next Saturday I host a Book Club. The book? Heck, I need to read it. I've only known about this since before Christmas. Living on the edge!
But ya know what....it's the Weekend---cue up the record player for this 70's anthem by Wet Willie!

Some 70's Feeling...
I venture to Donny.com a few times a week. I admit it. I was there during the Osmond Hey Day of the '70's. I admit I saw 26 Osmond concerts before I saw any other performer. I feared that performer wouldn't EVER be as good as the Osmonds....That next performer was...The Bee Gees, at the peak of Saturday Night Live---and to think I was scared....
Back to the Donny. com--there's a thread that some of their old LP's will be relased. My heart skipped a beat. My favorite Osmond lp--stay with me here--is Phase III. It was their 3rd album. Still way before Donny and Marie. Listen to this album. They rocked on "Business" and "My Drum" --it wasn't your tween years "One Bad Apple."
I will always wonder how the Osmonds would have been, if Donny & Marie hadn't happened. Don't get me wrong, I like D & M--yet, I just wonder....what if.....
