Saturday There Abouts...

This was the view from a window this morning. Chill came back to the Dallas after days of 70 degree weather. I headed off to meet up with dear chums for my Writers' Group. Although we gabbed about the world around us, sipped tea and munched brownies, we did take on writing.
My chums encouraged me more on the re-do I want to do with the one and only book I wrote--and self published, back in yester-century. Although, the story is a work of fiction, most events are true. I've started a re-do several times, yet nothing so sticks. I wonder first person or third person or if I am just being too hard on myself.
On of my other chums has the same issue with a story of hers. It really happened, yet feels it may be better as third person, yet she finds herself wanting to first person.
I think I just made my decision.
Just something about being first.
Stay tuned.

Write Up!

Met up with my Honor the Words Writers' Group today. Just what the Maya Angelou in me needed. Support. Encouragement. Laughter along with yummy coffee cake and pumpkin spice flavored coffee!

OK, my group members are in the midst of critiquing my one and only book, which I self published, in yester-century. An eye opener of an experience because things they said I should include/exclude are the same things I fought with myself those years ago. I knew, in yester-century, not all my written words sounded quite right, yet I had no clue why they did not. Thanks to my group, I do now.

My group helped me realize how words can be and are powerful. Especially if a pesky dangling participle does not litter up your sentence!

Good day indeed...

October 23, 2001 was Tuesday

...and I remember it well. It was my dad's funeral and I wanted to smack the preacher. He was chosen by my step-mother, because well, frankly I didn't know any. Until my uncle mentioned another man who precided over my mom's funeral years before and actually grew up with my dad. This other man did speak at the end of my dad's funeral and was great.

OK, back to the first preacher. He kept pronouncing our last name wrong. And when I was up at the podium to deliver my dad's eulogy, I began to tear up. Well, he started preaching and saying our name wrong. I looked back at him, and told him so. People that knew me were about to laugh, and my step mother said my name, because they knew I was about ready to do Smack Down in the chapel--OK--and this was before I started my Spiritual Walk...

Later on that evening, a friend of my dad's stopped by the house. He said he'd arrived late to the funeral, but got there in enough time for me to wanna beat up the preacher.....yea, OK..well, maybe...

On this day, in 2010, I still basked in the Texas Rangers win to go into the World Series, then off to a bible study, and then my writers' group, while on my way home the rain poured, thunder rumbled and lightening cracked the sky. I was invited to a Halloween Party tonight--yet just feelin' all into it.

I also watched the Iowa Hawkeyes

lose to the Wisconsin Badgers I didn't like the losing part, yet I liked watching the Hawks play. Because on this 9th anniversary of my dad's death, I knew he watched it with me.
Just like always.

Hoop Saturday

The day started with rain. Lots of it. It stopped, yet and the rumor of snow seemed to stop right along with it. The wind had other ideas tho. On to my day, which included my Writers' Group.
During our session, I realized I write everyday for school, my blogs, Facebook, and any other e-mails that don't fall into the Facebook file. What I've not done, is write as much on my fiction. My goal was to finish a draft of my novella by my birthday (that's April 8th, to the rest of my world). It can still be done..uh...yes...it can.. :)
Then back at home, I had to complete a school assignment, while I waited for the University of Kansas vs University of Northern Iowa NCAA Mens' Basketball Tourney game to commence. Imagine my dissatisfaction the Dallas area wasn't carrying the game.
Well, today I realized how much I LOVE technology! Headed to the PC. Pulled up my school assignment, while I went to CBS.com to pull up the game. For the first time, pretty much ever, I sat in front of my PC and watched a entire game! Little team from Northern Iowa, let's call Team David slew Team Number 1 in the Country Goliath aka Kansas 69-67.
Who knew? Nobody saw it coming. Except maybe the team, UNI fans and me. Yesterday, I informed a co-worker, who is a Kansas Jayhawk alum, that UNI had a chance. He gave me a look of, "Are you crazy?" For a few moments, I forgot how good lookin' he is.
Still, nice to know the ones thought most weak, are indeed can be the most strong!
Congrats to the University of Northern Iowa Panthers!
**** Update***** The snow rumor wound up being TRUE! It's 10:15PM as I write this. The weatherman told how it was snowing about 30 miles north of me. I peeked out my window. VOILA! A light blanket of snow. Does not cover the all the grass--yet snow on the First Day of Spring in Texas nonetheless! Miracles never cease, just ask the University of Northern Iowa!
