April 10, 1976 was Saturday Night

And on this day in 1976, the word was: par-TAY!

Yep. Back in those NBC's Saturday Night Live Wasn't Quite One Year Old Days, this night was my one and only party-my 18th birthday party to be exact! After all these years, classmates still talk about it. No special entertainment or DJ-nothing of the sort, just sloppy joes, squares of cake with my name written on each one--and oh yea, two kegs of beer: Schlitz and Budweiser.

In those days, the legal was 18. It wasn't until later, Dad admitted he just knew he was headed to jail, since not everybody was 18. Oh and then the beer was gone in 90 minutes, so a collection was taken up for more. Last year, I posted about the day. Click here to take a trip back in time....

Now, to this day in 2010. I'm in the midst of my second whole day of my new age. When I was in my 20's, I thought people this age--were, well---old--and pretty much dead. Since I've made it this far, it's farther from the truth. Anyway, I've had grand day, which included being part of a chum's planning for her annual writers' conference here in Dallas. Come to think about it, it may have been more of the quiche than the planning...

So now I look at my cat filled and quite cluttered house. It does need some attention, especially my kitchen sink. Gotta make sure nothing grows in there. :) After all that, this Saturday night in 2010 ever so pales compared to my own personal Saturday Night Live exactly 34 years ago tonight.

No matter. The memory still makes me smile...

Now while this cat sleeps I'll clean

...maybe..plus Saturday Night Live is new tonight
Better set the DVR, since I may be asleep... :)

So It's Sunday...

Gorgeous Sunday Afternoon here in the big D. Iced coffee at hand--didn't make it AS strong as in the past, so I may not get a caffeine buzz. But after Sarah Palin and then the Cowboys loss, maybe I do need a buzz. Hmm.

OK---just to get it over and done with: Cowboys lose. Big and so very bad. I get out of church, flip on the radio and hear there's about 13 or so minutes left until halftime. Boyz ahead 7-0. Good, I thought. So I run to Wal-mart Grocery and as I zip home. I turn on the radio. Less than two minutes to half time, and the Boyz are behind 21-7. HUH?!?!?!? Sure, sure...sure...Tony Romo was out, but COME ON! The Rams hadn't scored that many points ALL season. During the post game, local sports guy, Randy Galloway asked Jerry "We Are Building a New Stadium that Nobody Can Afford to Attend" Jones if couch Wade Phillips was going to be fired. Jerry, I think said no. That Bill Parcells and even Jimmy Johnson, who went 1-15, had bad games.

Speaking of Jimmy, after the game, in the FOX Studios, Terry Bradshaw said Cowboys need a tough coach. He looks at Jimmy Johnson, and says, "They need you." Gotta tell you, I often wonder, as do thousands in the Cowboy Nation what, woulda shoulda coulda happened if Jimmy had stayed.

They lost. The whole team. I bet Tony plays on that pinky finger next Sunday.

And Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. I dvr'd this just in case I dozed off. And I did after Josh Brolin and Oliver Stone's plug for "W". Made me think of Josh's dad: Mr. Barbara Streisand aka James, when he was the stud back in the late 60's ,early 70's, on Dr. Welby, MD. He played the brash, young doc who made his way round on a motorcycle. Back to the show: Sure, Sarah Palin proved to be a good sport. Yet, I wanted her to DO something-more than what she did. Kinda disappointed she and Tiny Fey didn't have more interaction. I actually woke up just as "Weekend Update" came on---Amy Pohler's rap was PRICELESS. And she's pregnant out to there. When that moose came on--MY GOODNESS. I still howl. And Sarah smiled throughout. Give her credit--she hung in there. Amy's rap, to me, is the best thing SNL has done in long time. And to think Amy was was born, three years before SNL debuted! PRICELESS.

To 'rap' this all up, Iowa Hawkeys won, as did the Texas Longhorns-which solidifies their #1 ranking. The Cowboys didn't, yet we all won with Amy's performance. At least tonight, I have some Cold Case and Desperate Housewives, plus a short story to finish.
And my iced coffee.

Saturday Night Live on Sunday Morning

Didn't watch SNL's season opening until this morning: Priceless.

For a second, I thought Sarah Palin was really on the show! Thank you, Tina Fey for being there. This election...man oh man...how many more days? Will there be debates between the candidates? Will we have some kind of calm in 50 some days? Will my first try at making iced coffee make me stop spending a buck 99 at Jack in the Box?

Stay tuned.

Yes, I watched Sarah Palin..

I am a Democrat. And I watched some of the Republican Convention.

Tried to watch President Bush's speech, the other night. I couldn't hang in there until the end. I'm sorry if he's your guy. He wasn't/isn't mine. All I remember about him being governor was George W Bush running for president.

I digress.

Back to Sarah. Hey, I gotta give her props. Such calm in front of millions. Confidence, humor. Gotta say I was impressed with her. Loved the line about the hockey Moms, pit bulls and lipstick. Her pledge to be an advocate for special needs folks. Liked that too--since I guess, with microtia--I might considered special needs nowadays. All this came natural for her. Like I said, give the Republican VP nominee her due.

John McCain made a good choice in Sarah Palin. She's gives his campaign a much needed spark. Let's face it--one drop of water could douse whatever spark that did exist. Now, my personal thought--and this is just my personal thought--and this is my blog-Sarah Palin did dig deep and hard at their opponents. At times, I felt she was petty--with the healing the world and water comment. Then about the pillars her opponents had on stage. Hmm. I guess the Republicans aren't booked into the Metrodome? Did bother me when Sarah Palin said "victory' was at hand in Iraq--and her opponent wanted to forfeit.

OK--I didn't get that forfeit part. I think bringing our service men and women home ASAP is important, should not be considered a forfeit. Also didn't Republican President Bush stand on the USS Abraham Lincoln (who had a little something to do with the Emancipation Proclamation) on May 1, 2003 and announce "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq? But now, in 2008, we're close to victory? To me the President signaled something had ended.

Wrong.

All in all very good speech. Will be some kind of fight until November 4, 2008. Oh, and can't you just see Maya Rudolph, or even Tina Fey doing a good Sarah Palin on SNL?

However did Sarah Palin's speech do enough to sway me?

No.

I am a Democrat.
