TeenyBopper Tears

The other day, I'd mentioned David Cassidy and Davy Jones were to appear in concert about 15 miles from my house. I really beat myself up I didn't spend the 82 bucks and change to go see them. After all, Davy Jones is still cute, even if he's over 60.

I pictured women, like myself, who wondered what color to cover their gray hair, but then were transported back to those great bubblegum pop days, where tomorrow's history test was the biggest trauma, plus you had to actually talk to your BFF--since texting and cell phones hadn't been invented heck. Heck, I remembered carrying a dime around for the pay phone. Anyway, I was pretty mad at myself for not going.

Then I read the concert's
review. And I'm not so mad at myself anymore.

Oh well. I still have a sweet Bubble Yum kinda memory.

TeenyBopper AARP Dream Team

Are in Dallas tonight: Headliner David Cassidy, with opening act Davy Jones. I gave ALOT of thought to go and not enough thought of how flat broke I am. Last night, I tinkered on Ticketmaster to see where the best seats were. Section 102, row E.

Just right of Center. Just 5 rows from the stage. I could probaby be able to see the gray on both David and Davy. I stared at the total price of 82 bucks and change-for once ticket. I remember what a co-worker said on Friday: "You'll be so mad if you don't go." The venue was all of 20 minutes from me.

David and Davy. Almost pert near in my back yard. 82 bucks and change. In 2000, granted I spent 85 bucks to see Tina Turner with 20, 000 of my closest and dearest friends. I was so close to her, that when Tina was on the crane and flew over people, I could see her zipper was broken on her white slacks.

However in 2010. I decided I couldn't do the 82 bucks. Stuff I needed to pay stared back at me. Would David and Davy forgive me? Would they play somewhere that wasn't 82 bucks? I've never seen David Cassidy in person, but Davy-.saw him several times in the Monkees' Reunion tours.

Why wasn't Davy the headliner? Maybe that's what really bummed me. Davy was the first 'older man' I feel in love with. Sure I was eight at the time, but hey! OK, I coulda robbed from Peter to pay Paul, and then swipe from each of the deciples, to get the ticket money. Yet, I chose not to.

Oh well. At least Marcia Brady got her wish.

Missed March 19, 1971 being Friday

Too busy oogling the wisteria in my present day backyard and forgot another memory of this day.
However, on this Saturday 2009, when I don't have any strawberries for my oatmeal, I still gotta smile. See, back on March 19, 1971 I thought I'd pretty much died and gone to heaven. And on that day after Saturday 1971, I remember asking my best friend if she felt the same. And no, I didn't have the house filled with A & W onions or gallons of ice cream.

Great thought tho.

Nope. All bubblegummers, tweens (we didn't have that word then, but I'm sure they floated too), teenyboppers floated on clouds. THE two kings of Tiger Beat Magazine-dom were together! On one show! Bobby Sherman guest starred on The Partridge Family starring David Cassidy! This was way before vcr's. So we all had our tape recorders in front of our non 42-inch plasma or LCD TVs, to capture this momentous occasions.

Bobby looked so cute in that purple shirt --and oh my!--that choker! David was just cute period! As we swooned, and ran our tongue over our braces, we wondered if we would ever grow up to be girls Bobby and David would ever like. Could we? Would they?

After 38 years, I still wonder.

In the meantime, let's cue up a little "Stephanie" from that infamous episode. OK. I admit, I substituted my name instead. Anybody else do the same? :)

Saturday Smiles

You should be washing dishes. Mop the floor. Doing laundry. Instead you pet just about every cat in the neighborhood---oh wait, they ALL live with you. Pop your daily meds. Take a shower. Notice the man who once again said he'd call so you two could do coffee hasn't and probably true to form: won't. Which is too bad, because you hoped he'd changed---finally.

Nonetheless, you feel a giddy. January 20, 2009, Inauguration Day inches closer. You bask how more History is being made.

You also realize there's movies to see, paint to buy, dreams for another house, food for all the neighborhood cats that seem to live with you. And then there's the pipin' hot coffee with the scrumptious piece of pie at Celebrity Bakery that screams your name.

Yea, all that other stuff can wait. You got things to do. To make you smile, you post some videos from a time before you had to be responsible for the dishes, the floor, the laundry and now that pesky mortgage because you crave a roof over your head and all the neighborhood cats. A little David Cassidy and the Partridge Family, then Osmond Brothers when it was still all five of them, and then a little rock n roll because you did always like a little Kiss.

The Osmond Brothers

Fridays Use To Be For A Partridge or 5

Back in the way long ago galaxy of 1970, 'tweens and teenyboppers were glued to The Partridge Family's first season on ABC. Me included. Yea, had a big ol' crush on David Cassidy. My love for David Cassidy began when I saw him in a Dr. Welby MD episode, where he played a diabetic. How cute he was! My passion for David burned after the light went out for Davy Jones, Sajid Khan, Bobby Sherman and before the lanterns of Merrill Osmond and brother Donny Osmond caught on. I digress. This was before cable, DVR, TiVO--all of that stuff. I mean, this was before Midnight Special made it special enough for TV to NOT sign off at midnight. Can you believe there ever was a day --er--- night like that?

Fast forward to this Friday. Just got off the phone with Movie Man. What a week this guy had. See, he was selected for jury duty on Monday. Not just some simple kinda jury thing. Oh no. Not my chum. Movie Man gets a capital murder case. Quite an adventure. Not quite all Perry Mason, Judd for the Defense (a TV show from the late 60's) or Boston Legal scenarios. I admire him. Not so sure I could get through it. I'd have to be Jury Person #7 that had to be excused. By the end of our chat, Movie Man and I were chuckling. We might do a movie tomorrow. Just wait and see.

In the meantime, since I know Movie Man partakes in my blog, I know he'll get a kick out of this. I've told him about this song sung by The Partridge Family in particular episode where there's a young Richard Pryor and Lou Gossett Jr. This was way before Richard in 'Silver Streak' and Lou in 'Roots' and don't even think of 'Officer and a Gentleman'. Now, don't blink or you'll miss Richard and Lou at the very start of the tune. This show aired in January 1971. Coincidence?

Cue the song that maybe could get you dancing, in a 1970's bubblegum kinda way: Bandala!

Hmm. After Movie Man views this, he might be GLAD he wasn't born until 1976. Oh well, cue it up anyway. :)
