I Missed the Memo on This Change....

Volleyball sure has changed. I mean, when I was in high school, we didn’t wear those bikini looking uniforms during our PE volleyball units. Hmm-but then again, we didn’t have our games in sand either-just the gymnasium. Watched some of the gold medal match for women’s beach volleyball. Team USA so far, leads in second game, and has already won the first.

When did the women become so scantily clad to play volleyball? And well, in some of the pictures I’ve seen of the men’s beach volleyball teams---they’re covered. What gives? I admit to not knowing much of the sport. Until a few Olympics ago, I didn’t know one could win a gold medal playing on the sand for it—or any medal for that fact. Nonetheless, volleyball has so changed-just like swimming. Men nowa days, like Michael Phelps, wear those long johns, when back in Mark Spitz’ day, just regular, short swim trucks—now THAT was a uniform!

I can go with some changes on the sports scene. Like those on the men’s track team. Specifically in the 110m hurdles….to the point: David Oliver. Hmm. Now come to think of it—I don’t remember past hurdlers looking like HIM either…

Change is good.

Olympic Gold 8 Times Over

Michael Phelps did it. History.

Eight medals---all Gold in this 29th Olympiad. Whatever the reason Mark Spitz wasn't in Beijing to personally , as it were to the next generation. After all Mary Lou Retton sat in the stands when the USA's Nastia and Shawn won Gold and Silver respectively, in the women's all around. I mean, my goodness, Mark's record of seven gold medals held for 36 years. It may be another 36 before its broken again.

But then again...maybe not.

Honestly, I don't follow swimming. So when did goggles, caps and those long swim pants dive in the pool on the men? See, that's why it makes it a bit more special when Mark won -no goggles, caps or long johns for him. Just all him, in those skimpy swimming trunks...yea, 1972 wasn't so bad...:)

I just began my freshman year in high school, when Mark won his seven. My friends and I had THE biggest crush on him. OK-Michael Phelps is cute in his own way. I'm sure teenage girls are doing a swoon over him, like we did for Mark back in '72. Maybe---because I'm older I see it all a bit different now.

Or maybe it was just the moustache.

History.

About Last Night...

Wednesday Night, during a lull in Michael Phelps’s Quest for Olympic Gold, Movie Man and I did an uncharacteristic Moment at the Moving Picture Show. Eventho he’s pretty adamant where he views motion pictures, Movie Man was persuaded to venture to Moving Picture Show, just a mile from my house. Movie Man prefers one, which I call, “The Field”----because, well, to me, it IS out in a field about ten miles away.

The motion picture? >drum roll< "Tropic Thunder." OK, I chuckled…some. Yet, my cup of testosterone woulda had to really overflow to guffaw like Movie Man. Trust me. I didn’t. Don’t get me wrong, cutie pie Robert Downey Jr (…the BEST thing that happened to ‘Ally McBeal’. Still bummed he wasn’t in the finale.) shoulda almost stole the motion picture….except for…well, I’m not gonna say.

Didn’t know this actor was even close to this motion picture. During this actor’s scenes were bout the only time Movie Man and I laughed in unison. Never was much of a fan of this actor, yet this role somewhat redeemed him. Gotta love it! Sly. Fun. Still makes me smile.

All in all a good night. Movie Man gave the theatre a ‘thumbs up.’ Says he’ll go back, except for Tyler Perry’s new movie in September. Hmm. Still got time to work on that.

As for “Tropic Thunder”—some funny bits with a definite shiny “suri’ with the fringe on top!
