Plaque Hangs with Terra Cotta Pot

Something different to share. Tried my hand at a plaque. Just kinda simple for my first try. When I started this whole terra cotta pot thing, my goal was to put my cat photos on the pots. The look of the finished product just did not light my fire. I have learned more of the mechanics of putting photos on pots now--paper, size, vertical vs horizontal, etc. However I was unhappy with the outcomes. The other day, I caught a glimpse of the plaques in Hobby Lobby--and thought "Hmm". On this plaque, I used Mod Podge Sparkle, hence the sparklies all over. I like the start so far.

As for the pot, it's a 4 inch rose bud terra cotta. Metallic paints of green, gold and red. I was going for Christmas colors. Although the folks that looked at it--loved the colors, yet didn't see "Christmas". I do like the the colors tho.

What's cool about these projects, I can honestly say I LIKE what I'm turning out. Tweaks here and there--sure, however I am likin' my product.

Stay tuned.

Pretty in Pink II

Terra Cotta Pink Pot Take Two. Sorry-no Molly Ringwald or Ducky. :) Gave another go at pink on the pot last night. I like this one better than Pepto Bismol Terra Cotta pot a couple days back. Still not how I want it to be. Yet closer than before.
Two metallics paints by Anita (which I purchased at Hobby Lobby): White for the base and Rose. The White was foam brushed on, while Rose was natural sea 'wool' sponged on (I feel so artsy!). The Rose was very brash, pretty--yet brash (like I'm told I am at times--that's whole 'nother post. We're talkin' terra cotta right now!) So I got the idea to spong some of the White over the Rose. Voila! Rose was softened. If you saw the pot in person, you would really be able to tell. Also, I dabbed Folk Art Neon Pink Glitter over the pot. Once again, that's an 'in person" you gotta see it kinda thing, yet I should have used a deeper Glitter paint, or put Mod Podge Glitter version over it.
I do like the outcome more on this one. I have another pot to try out for the Pink. Why do I want a really pretty in pink pot? Because it's Breast Cancer Awarness Month. I am blessed to know a 80 years young Stage 4 breast cancer survior. The pot is for her, because she's pretty in pink and every other color to boot.
Stay tuned.

Pots, Sponge & Me

My latest creations with terra cotta pots.

I think the poor pots don't what hit em! :) They are 4 inch pots purchased at Wal-mart for about 85 or so cents apiece. The paint is all acrylic by Folk Art.

The pot on the left is Black, Metallic Antique Gold and Metallic Blue Sapphire. The Pepto Bismol on the right: Black, Metallic Champagne (which dried to a silver shade), Shiny Sugar Plum, and Baby Pink.

The natural sea sponge used to paint the terra cotta pots, was a small piece cut from the bigger sponge, purchased a few days ago. After further review, sea sponges. aka called "painter's sponges", can be had at Michael's or Hobby Lobby for about half the price. I liked Hobby Lobby's sponge selection better. I didn't realize it tho, until tonight. The closest big box craft store is 10 miles away from where I live. I pass two Home Depots and a Lowe's on my 15 mins drive from work. I paid extra for the natural sea sponge convenience. S'OK--I bought a small "sea wool sponge" at Hobby Lobby tonight. I have no idea if "sea wool" makes a difference in anything.

Stay tuned. tyle="color:
