Different Christmas Eve Part Another

On this Christmas Eve, as I sat in Denny's, awaiting my Make Your Own Slam, I took note of the Dallas Morning News. I hate to say, its been awhile since I actually sat down and read the paper. Yes, yes...I know I can read stuff online, but call me old fashioned--I like to FEEL the paper in my hand. Anyway, I was reminded we have a new President to take the oath on Jan 20th. I have that day off, just to so I can watch History. Granted, we've seen the picture of President elect Barack Obama in the waves of Hawaii--just in his trunks.

I really like what I voted for. I digress.

Barack Obama has chosen 3 folks I'm most familiar of: Hillary (OK--I still wish she were VP), Iowa (my home state!) governor Tom Vilsack and former Dallas mayor Ron Kirk (a good Mayor for Dallas), to be part of his cabinet. I never pictured there would EVER come a time I would even recognize the folks a president chose. In fact this is the closest in age I've been to a President. And drat, my grades weren't good enough to go to Harvard, heck my grades were barely good enough to get me out of high school! I digress.

Not everybody is thrilled with what Barack Obama has done of late . Like the broo ha ha of Rick Warren to be part of his inaugural ceremony. I am probably one of the five people that haven't read "Purpose Driven Life" I can respect Rick Warren's views,. I just don't happen to agree with all of them, mainly the whole bit on gay marriage. He's against it. That doesn't make me against Barack Obama for his choice to include Rick Warren. Isn't Rick Warren's task to give a prayer? Now, if Barack Obama runs us more in the economy toilet, keeps us in Iraq a moment longer and just screws us up more royally---well, then I'll want my vote back. I'm not with Richard Cohen, of the Washington Post. who said Barack Obama's choice of Rick Warren is not a show of moral leadership. To me Barack Obama leads to include those he may not also agree with. God gives us free will--it's up to you how you use it. Everybody ain't gonna be happy. Gay marriage, personally I think people fret about it entirely too much. I'm sure I ticked off my more conservative Christian chums.

And the article in Dallas Morning News about the Tuskegee Airman get an onstage seat during the inauguration. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/washington/stories/122408dnmetairmen.3d2e109.html Men sacrificed their lives in WWII, yet were excluded from victory celebrations. Could not enter the officers' club because of their skin color. Back then, there was the notion the brain of the negro just couldn't handle the know how to fly planes and combat. Folks had free will then too, however laced with a strip of ignorance.

To be open minded is the key to change.
