Headlines....$770 Million for Food Aid....

The Soon, but not Soon Enough to Exit the White House, President George Bush has pledged $770 million for food aid to Third World Countries. OK—I applaud the thought of it. To aid those less fortunate is the right thing. My on-the drive-home radio newscaster told me there is reason President Bush isn’t giving any food aid to the United States. The U.S. food prices have increased only an average of 4% (here in Dallas, it’s 6%), while the other countries’ are over 40%. On paper, it works…..

However.

What of the folks here---heck, what about ME? When I gasp today at bread prices, which were cheaper last week? I can’t drown my sorrows with ice cream, because it’s not on sale. I may have to fight my cats for their Friskies chicken and tuna prime fillets. Clipping coupons is my newest BFF. Yes, we can and should learn to budget more. Hate it. Yet I can do it. I don’t want to. Reality.

What of the folks stretched more than I am? Families need to be fed. What about people that don’t know if they can make it until payday? Pray that a check won’t clear before the payday money is there? The hot check they wrote was to get money for the dinner table. Astronomical fuel prices don’t help. The mortgage mess doesn’t help. Our current situation reeks of spoiled milk.

What are you going to do for the people here at home, Soon, but Not Soon Enough to exit the White House, President Bush? Yes, help those, in other lands, that are less fortunate. The United States is the richest country in the world-we’re supposed to do that! Althoough, tell that to the folks (including me) that hang out in the Everything’s 99 cent store.

Is there money left in the cookie jar for us (the United States), President Bush? Or did the mice eat it all since they couldn’t find any cheese either?
